EssilorLuxottica is a global eyewear, vision-care, and wearable-technology manufacturer and the parent company behind Ray-Ban. It designs and manufactures prescription frames, sunglasses, lenses, and increasingly connected smart eyewear. In partnership with Meta, it manufactures Ray-Ban Meta AI-enabled smart glasses, combining traditional Ray-Ban frames with cameras, microphones, speakers, connectivity, and Meta AI capabilities for hands-free photography/video, calls, audio, livestreaming, and AI interactions. EssilorLuxottica is particularly known for its vertically integrated eyewear manufacturing capabilities and major brands including Ray-Ban and Oakley.
The internal battery loses usable capacity, drains unusually quickly, reports an incorrect charge level, or causes the glasses to shut down despite indicating remaining charge. In severe cases, the glasses only operate while docked or fail to power on at all.
The glasses fail to charge or are intermittently recognized by the charging case because of poor contact at the nose-bridge charging interface. Contamination, moisture, contact degradation, or alignment problems can result in red/orange status lights and a completely discharged unit.
One or both open-ear speakers become silent, distorted, crackly, or significantly quieter than the other side. Some reported failures progressively worsen until the affected speaker stops producing audio entirely.
A temple arm or hinge develops excessive play, cracks, separates from the frame, or breaks during otherwise routine opening and closing. Because electronics and interconnects run through the temples, structural damage can also cause speaker, camera, or other electronic functions to stop working.
One or more microphones stop reliably capturing speech, producing extremely quiet, distorted, robotic, or absent audio. This can cause voice commands to stop responding and severely degrade calls and recorded-video audio.
The charging case stops charging the glasses, fails to respond to its button or lid state, or no longer recognizes that the glasses have been inserted. A failed case can leave otherwise functional glasses unusable once their internal battery is depleted.
The camera stops taking photos or videos even though other functions of the glasses may continue working. Symptoms include an unresponsive capture button, no capture indication, spontaneous captures, or camera functionality disappearing while Bluetooth/audio remains operational.
The capacitive touchpad or physical controls become intermittent or completely unresponsive, preventing volume, playback, capture, or gesture commands. Some failures temporarily recover after a reset but later recur or become permanent.
The glasses become effectively dead: they may not boot, respond to controls, enter pairing mode, or operate their camera and speakers despite charging attempts and resets. Some units retain limited Bluetooth or case communication while the primary hardware functions remain nonfunctional.
