Neumann repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Georg Neumann GmbH, marketed as Neumann.Berlin, is a German manufacturer of professional, studio-grade audio equipment founded in 1928 and part of the Sennheiser Group since 1991. The company is best known for its high-end condenser and recording microphones, including iconic models such as the U 47, M 49, U 67 and U 87. Its current product portfolio extends beyond microphones to studio monitors, professional headphones, audio interfaces and reference solutions for recording, broadcast, music production and live audio applications. Neumann is particularly recognized for precision electro-acoustic transducer engineering and high-quality microphone manufacturing, with significant manual assembly and extensive testing involved in production.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Capsule Contamination / Moisture Noise

Condenser microphones such as the U 87, TLM and KM series can develop crackling, hiss, reduced output or intermittent noise when moisture, dust, smoke or other contamination reaches the capsule or high-impedance circuitry. Humid close-miking environments can make the problem substantially worse.

Microphone Capsule Degradation

Older Neumann microphones can develop reduced sensitivity, abnormal noise or inconsistent frequency response as the capsule becomes contaminated or physically deteriorates. Severe cases require professional capsule cleaning, repair or replacement.

U 87 Switch Assembly Failure

U 87 models are repeatedly reported with damaged or malfunctioning pattern, pad and low-cut switch assemblies. Broken plastic switch pins, deteriorated mechanisms or faulty contacts can leave functions inoperative or permanently engaged.

Microphone Internal Contact Failure

Models such as the KM 184 can become intermittent or stop producing normal output because the internal spring/contact interface no longer makes reliable electrical contact with the capsule. Connector and internal contact deterioration can similarly cause intermittent operation in older microphones.

KH-Series Power Supply Failure

KH monitors, particularly older KH 120 units, are repeatedly reported with failed switch-mode power-supply components such as electrolytic capacitors, switching MOSFETs, rectifier diodes and controller circuitry. Typical symptoms include a completely dead monitor, blown mains fuse, clicking or repeated power cycling.

KH-Series Hiss / Distortion

KH 120/KH 140-family monitors can develop abnormal hiss, noise or distortion, particularly from the high-frequency section. Repair reports commonly trace these symptoms to the internal power supply or preamplifier/filter electronics rather than the tweeter itself.

KH-Series Amplifier Failure

A failed power-amplifier IC or associated supply rail can mute a woofer or tweeter and may prevent the monitor's power supply from starting correctly. Some KH 120 repairs show amplifier failure occurring together with secondary-side power-supply faults.

KH Monitor Cabinet / Rear-Panel Air Leakage

Aging seals around the rear panel of some KH monitors can lose airtightness and produce audible whistling, rustling or air noise at low frequencies. The problem is especially noticeable during bass reproduction and generally requires resealing the affected enclosure components.

NDH Headphone Cable / Connector Problems

NDH 20 and NDH 30 headphones rely on a detachable locking 2.5 mm earcup connection, making the cable and connector a practical wear or intermittent-signal point. Cable faults can cause channel dropout or unstable audio and are normally addressed by replacing the detachable cable.

1 Acme Revival offers repair, service, and part rebuild opportunities for most Neumann devices.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
