Its physical device portfolio includes Surface PCs and tablets, Xbox gaming consoles, and PC/device accessories, while its broader businesses include Windows, Microsoft 365, Azure, Dynamics, LinkedIn, and related AI and enterprise services. Microsoft is particularly known for Windows, Microsoft 365, Azure, Xbox, Surface, and its growing AI/Copilot ecosystem. For hardware, Microsoft follows a largely outsourced manufacturing model, engaging third-party manufacturers to produce its devices rather than relying primarily on Microsoft-owned factories.
Battery no longer holds a charge, is not detected, stops charging, or the device shuts down immediately after external power is disconnected. In some cases, battery deterioration can progress to swelling or physical expansion of the battery pack.
Built-in display flickers, scrambles, develops lines, discoloration, dead pixels, image distortion, or stops displaying an image. Surface Pro 4 is particularly associated with a documented hardware-related screen scrambling issue.
Touch input becomes partially or completely unresponsive, inaccurate, or generates phantom touches without user input. Failure that persists in UEFI generally indicates a hardware problem requiring service.
Keyboard or Type Cover intermittently disconnects, stops responding, repeats or drops keystrokes, or develops individual nonfunctional keys. Physical key damage or failures that persist outside Windows generally indicate keyboard hardware failure.
Surface Connect or USB-C charging ports stop reliably detecting the charger, become physically damaged, or fail to deliver power to the device. The result may be intermittent charging, no charging, or an inability to power the device.
Device fails to power on, powers on and immediately shuts down, or remains stuck on a black or startup screen. When charging and forced-restart procedures do not restore operation, the underlying fault may involve the battery, power circuitry, or motherboard.
Internal storage becomes inaccessible, corrupted, or prevents the device from completing startup. Symptoms can include boot failures, persistent drive-related startup screens, data-access errors, or failure of the removable SSD on supported Surface models.
Cooling components or thermal-management hardware fail to regulate device temperature correctly, causing excessive heat, abnormal fan operation, throttling, shutdowns, or instability. Current Surface designs commonly use replaceable thermal modules and, on applicable models, replaceable fans.
Built-in speakers, microphones, audio jacks, or related hardware stop producing or capturing sound correctly despite functioning drivers and software settings. Persistent audio failure after software troubleshooting can require replacement of the affected speaker, microphone, audio-port, or motherboard component.
