GigaPan EPIC repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Panoramic Imaging
End Use Segment

GigaPan Systems is a U.S. imaging-technology company best known for the GigaPan EPIC family of robotic, motorized camera mounts, including the EPIC, EPIC 100, and EPIC Pro. The devices automatically position and trigger digital cameras to capture grids of overlapping photographs, which can then be stitched together using GigaPan software to produce extremely high-resolution, interactive gigapixel panoramas. The underlying technology grew out of work involving Carnegie Mellon University and NASA, drawing on panoramic-imaging concepts used for the Mars rovers. GigaPan combined robotic camera-positioning hardware, image-stitching software, and an online platform for viewing and sharing gigapixel imagery, with applications spanning professional photography, scientific research, education, documentation, and large-scale landscape or event imaging.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Electronic Shutter Trigger Failure

The EPIC Pro may fail to actuate the camera shutter through its electronic trigger cable, resulting in missing frames. Connection, cable compatibility, insufficient power, and camera state can all prevent successful triggering.

Mechanical Button-Pusher Failure

EPIC and EPIC 100 models can miss photographs when the mechanical button-pusher is misaligned or does not depress the shutter far enough or long enough. The actuator's positioning and hold duration are particularly sensitive to camera geometry.

Missed Frames During Panorama Capture

The system can advance to the next position before the camera has completed or stored the previous exposure. This produces gaps in the image grid and may not become obvious until the panorama is stitched.

Battery Depletion / Mid-Panorama Power Loss

EPIC-series units can exhaust their batteries during long panoramas, interrupting capture before the sequence is complete. Heavy mechanical shutter actuation, long sequences, motor activity, battery age, and cold conditions can worsen runtime.

Gear Backlash and Mechanical Play

EPIC and EPIC 100 units use plastic gearing that can develop or exhibit mechanical slack. Backlash reduces positioning stability and can become more problematic with heavy or poorly balanced camera loads.

Platform Vibration / Insufficient Settling

The motorized platform can still be vibrating when the shutter fires, producing blurred images. Higher motor speeds, large cameras or lenses, wind, and inadequate pre-trigger delay increase the problem.

Camera Mount / Arm Flex

The EPIC 100's mounting structure can flex under larger camera loads, reducing rigidity and repeatable positioning. Flex and vibration become more significant near the unit's payload and dimensional limits.

Autofocus Trigger Failure

On the EPIC Pro, the electronic trigger may release the shutter without giving the camera enough time to acquire autofocus, or autofocus may fail entirely on low-detail subjects. The result can be missed exposures or frames captured out of focus.

Motor Timing / Premature Platform Movement

EPIC-series heads can begin their next pan or tilt movement before a slow exposure has finished. Long exposures and insufficient time-per-picture settings make this especially likely, producing blur or unusable frames.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
