Gibson repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Gibson Brands, Inc. is a major manufacturer of guitars, musical instruments, amplifiers, and professional audio products, with roots dating to 1894. Its flagship Gibson brand is particularly known for iconic electric guitars such as the Les Paul and SG, as well as acoustic models including the J-45 and Hummingbird. Gibson electric guitars are handcrafted primarily in Nashville, while its acoustic guitars are produced at its expanded Bozeman, Montana facility. The wider Gibson portfolio includes Epiphone, Kramer, Steinberger, MESA/Boogie, and KRK Systems, extending the company into guitars, amplification, studio monitors, and professional audio equipment. Gibson is especially recognized for its long history of American guitar manufacturing, premium craftsmanship, distinctive instrument designs, and association with prominent professional musicians.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Nut Slot Binding / Tuning Instability

Strings bind in the nut slots, producing unstable tuning, pinging during tuning, or strings that return sharp or flat after bends. The G string is especially frequently reported because of the string path from the nut toward the tuner.

ABR-1 Bridge Saddle / Retainer-Wire Rattle

The ABR-1 bridge's saddle hardware or retaining wire can loosen and vibrate, producing an audible buzz or rattle. In more severe cases, the retaining wire can disengage and no longer securely retain the saddles.

Loose or Failing Gibson Deluxe Tuning Machines

Wear between the tuner shaft and housing can loosen Gibson Deluxe tuner assemblies, particularly the pressed-on rear housing. Other reported failures include excessive tuner play and broken or deteriorated tuner components.

Loose Volume and Tone Controls

Potentiometer mounting hardware can loosen through repeated operation or temperature and humidity cycling, allowing the entire control to rotate. Continued movement can strain wiring and solder connections and eventually cause intermittent or failed electronics.

Intermittent Pickup Selector Switch

The three-way pickup selector can develop dirty, oxidized, misaligned, or worn contacts, causing crackling, signal dropout, or a pickup position that works only when the switch is manipulated. Mechanical contact problems are a recurring failure mode in Gibson-style toggle-switch systems.

Loose / Intermittent Output Jack

The output jack's mounting nut can loosen with repeated cable use, allowing the jack assembly to rotate. Rotation can strain its wiring and solder joints, eventually causing crackling, intermittent output, or complete signal loss.

Loose Strap Button / Stripped Screw Hole

Strap-button screws can loosen as the wood around the mounting screw wears or loses its grip. If allowed to progress, the button can pull free and allow the instrument to separate from its strap.

Bent or Leaning Tune-o-matic Bridge Posts

ABR-1/Tune-o-matic bridge posts can bend or develop excessive lean, altering bridge geometry and potentially affecting action, intonation, or tuning stability. Excessive string break angle and mechanical impact can contribute to this condition.

Tune-o-matic String Contact / Tailpiece Geometry

A stopbar set too low can create an excessive break angle that causes strings to contact the rear edge of the Tune-o-matic bridge. This can interfere with proper bridge operation and, on some Gibson systems, contribute to tuning or string-performance problems.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
