Genelec repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Genelec Oy is a Finnish manufacturer specializing in high-performance active loudspeaker and audio monitoring systems. Founded in 1978, the company designs and manufactures professional studio monitors, subwoofers, active loudspeakers, and networked Smart IP audio systems for recording and broadcast studios, music production, post-production, commercial AV installations, and premium home audio. Genelec is particularly known for active studio monitors, where amplification and loudspeaker components are engineered as an integrated system, as well as its room-calibration and DSP-based monitoring technology. The company maintains its manufacturing in Iisalmi and emphasizes vertically integrated R&D and production, long product lifecycles, serviceability, and sustainable manufacturing practices.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Power-supply electrolytic capacitor failure

Aged or failed electrolytic capacitors in the amplifier power rails can cause hum, crackling, distortion, unstable operation, or complete loss of output. This is repeatedly reported on older 1000- and 8000-series monitors.

Power transformer failure

The mains transformer can develop an open primary winding, failed internal thermal fuse, or winding fault, leaving the monitor dead or repeatedly blowing its mains fuse. Documented examples include the 1029A, 1031A, and related older designs.

Power-amplifier module failure

STK, LM3886, discrete output stages, or associated amplifier components can fail, causing loss of the woofer or tweeter channel, distortion, excessive DC offset, or blown fuses. Older 1029A/1030A/1031A/8040-era amplifier assemblies are prominent in repair reports.

Cracked or dry solder joints

Heat, age, and vibration can produce intermittent solder joints around amplifier modules, connectors, and other high-stress PCB components. Symptoms include intermittent bass or treble, distortion after warm-up, level drops, or channels cutting in and out.

Internal connector and ribbon-cable failure

Pressure-fit headers, Molex-style connectors, ribbon cables, and driver quick-connect terminals can loosen or oxidize with age. The resulting poor contact can cause complete driver dropout, intermittent audio, or several-decibel level reductions.

Tweeter failure

A failed or damaged high-frequency driver results in missing, intermittent, or severely reduced treble while the woofer continues operating. Tweeter failures are repeatedly documented on older 1030A and 1031A monitors.

Woofer / low-frequency driver failure

Woofer damage or failure produces missing bass, weak low-frequency output, buzzing, or distortion despite the high-frequency section continuing to operate. Driver replacement is a documented repair on older Genelec monitor families.

Muting / protection circuit failure

A failed muting transistor or protection-circuit component can incorrectly suppress the audio signal even though the monitor powers up and its amplifier fuses remain intact. This failure is particularly documented in older 1031A amplifier electronics.

Mains power-switch mechanical failure

The mains switch can become loose, mechanically compromised, or detach from the enclosure as its material deteriorates with age or after mechanical impact. Genelec specifically identified this failure in a 2026 safety notice covering a small number of older 8030A and 1029A monitors.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
