GC Audio repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

GC Audio is a French designer and manufacturer of high-end professional analog audio equipment, founded by electronics and sound engineer Guillaume Chauvet. The company develops equipment primarily for recording engineers, producers, mastering engineers, and live-sound professionals. Its portfolio includes microphone and instrument preamplifiers, compressors, mastering/signal processors, 500-series modules and racks, and digitally controlled analog equipment. GC Audio is particularly associated with its Inherit System, a proprietary modular platform that lets users hot-swap different preamplifier cartridges within a common 19-inch rack, supporting solid-state, tube, high-voltage, and high-current designs. Its products emphasize analog signal quality, low noise, headroom, transient performance, rugged construction, and modern workflow features such as digital control/recall while retaining an analog audio path.

2 Most Seen Failures:

[Inherit Cartridge Edge-Connector Wear]

Repeated insertion and hot-swapping of Inherit cartridges can wear, contaminate, or weaken the card-edge contacts, resulting in intermittent audio, crackling, channel dropouts, or failure to recognize/control a cartridge.

[Power-Supply or Fuse Failure]

A blown mains or DC-rail fuse, failed power-supply component, or incorrect 115/230 V configuration can leave the unit completely dead or cause one or more internal supply rails to disappear. Power-related faults may consequently affect an entire rack rather than an individual audio stage.

[Ground-Loop Hum or Buzz]

Improper interaction between chassis ground, analog ground, and connected studio equipment can produce persistent 50/60 Hz hum or buzz. GC Audio provides ground/lift facilities on relevant hardware specifically to manage potential ground-loop conditions.

[Dirty or Intermittent Audio Connections]

Oxidation, contamination, mechanical wear, or poor contact at cartridge, XLR, TRS, or module connectors can cause intermittent signal, crackling, level loss, or complete audio dropout. Connector cleanliness is particularly important on equipment designed around removable modules.

[Tube Degradation or Failure]

Tube-equipped models can develop reduced output, increased noise, microphonics, distortion, channel imbalance, or complete stage failure as valves age or fail. GC Audio's tube hardware includes high-voltage stages, making tube and associated high-voltage circuitry important failure points.

[Relay or Switching Failure]

GC Audio hardware uses mechanical and solid-state relays to switch signal functions without routing audio directly through front-panel switches. A failed relay, relay driver, or contact can leave functions stuck, prevent signal routing, or create intermittent/missing audio.

[VCA Compressor Stage Failure]

Failure or instability in a VCA, its control circuitry, or surrounding components can produce incorrect gain reduction, level jumps, distortion, channel mismatch, or a compressor that no longer responds correctly to its controls.

[Transformer or Balanced-I/O Stage Failure]

GC Audio products make extensive use of Lundahl, Carnhill, Jensen, and other transformers for input/output balancing. A damaged transformer, connection, or associated driver stage can cause severe level loss, distortion, loss of one side of the balanced signal, or complete loss of audio.

[Electromagnetic Interference or Noise]

Strong nearby magnetic fields from power supplies, amplifiers, transformers, or loudspeakers can introduce unwanted hum or noise into susceptible analog stages. GC Audio specifically recommends keeping relevant hardware away from strong magnetic-field sources.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
