Charge Error
The degausser fails to charge to the power level required for an effective erase cycle. Causes can include incorrect mains voltage, an incorrect voltage configuration, or faults in the charging/power circuitry.
Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.
Garner Products, Inc. is a U.S. OEM specializing in equipment for secure data sanitization, destruction, and end-of-life processing of electronic storage media. The company designs and manufactures hard-drive and magnetic-tape degaussers, physical hard-drive destroyers, solid-state/flash-media destruction equipment, verification systems, and newer hard-drive disassembly and material-recovery systems such as DeMAG and DiskMantler. Its products are used by government agencies, data centers, IT asset disposition providers, recyclers, hospitals, and enterprises to make data on retired storage devices unrecoverable and, increasingly, to facilitate recovery of components and rare-earth materials. Garner is particularly known for its hard-drive degaussing and destruction equipment, including NSA-listed systems, and for vertically integrated U.S. manufacturing: machining, engineering, assembly, testing, and shipping are performed from its Roseville operation.
The degausser fails to charge to the power level required for an effective erase cycle. Causes can include incorrect mains voltage, an incorrect voltage configuration, or faults in the charging/power circuitry.
The machine detects that its media drawer or safety door is not completely closed and prevents or interrupts operation. Improper seating, accumulated debris, or obstruction of the drawer/door can cause this condition.
The degausser detects that the magnetic field generated during the erase cycle may have been insufficient to reliably erase the media. The error can recur after a restart when the system cannot generate or verify the required field strength.
Internal temperature rises above the equipment's acceptable operating range, causing the machine to inhibit further cycles until it cools. Restricted ventilation, high ambient temperature, or cooling-system problems can contribute to the condition.
PD-series destroyers may fail to correctly detect or size media when drives are improperly positioned or the sensing area is obstructed. This can prevent the destruction sequence from proceeding correctly or place the destruction wedge at an unsuitable position.
A PD-series destroyer can reach its maximum available crushing force without fully destroying an unusually strong drive or an excessive stack of drives. Garner specifically instructs users to reduce the number of simultaneously loaded drives when complete destruction is not achieved.
Broken drive material can become wedged in the destruction chamber, particularly when already damaged media is subjected to another destruction cycle. Accumulated fragments can also interfere with correct media positioning and potentially damage the machine.
The destroyer's safety door may fail to close completely when the debris tray is not fully inserted or protruding drive hardware obstructs it. Because the door is safety-interlocked, this condition prevents normal destruction operation.
High-cycle destroyers require periodic maintenance as mechanical components, filters, drive mechanisms, and related parts accumulate wear and debris. The PD-5 issues a "Service Required" indication at 10,000-cycle intervals, and neglected maintenance can contribute to degraded or interrupted operation.
