Freefly repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Freefly Systems is a U.S. engineering and manufacturing company specializing in professional unmanned aircraft, stabilized camera systems, and high-performance imaging equipment. Founded in 2011, it initially became prominent in film and television through its CineStar aerial platforms and Mōvi camera stabilizers, then expanded into industrial and enterprise UAV applications including mapping, inspection, LiDAR, aerial imaging, and heavy-payload operations. Its current hardware ecosystem includes the Astro/Astro Max compact industrial drones, Alta X/Alta X Gen2 heavy-lift aircraft, Mōvi stabilized gimbals, Ember high-speed cameras, Pilot Pro controllers, and Freefly battery/power systems. The company is particularly known for tightly integrated professional drone platforms and for maintaining significant design, assembly, testing, support, and in-house manufacturing operations in Woodinville, Washington.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Flight Battery Degradation or Charging Failure

Freefly Mōvi Pro, Alta X, Astro, and SL-series batteries can develop cell imbalance, reduced capacity, excessive voltage sag, or refusal to charge after aging or improper storage. Severely degraded packs may cause short runtime, shutdowns, or an aircraft that cannot arm.

Motor or ESC Startup Failure

Alta X aircraft have experienced intermittent motor-start failures caused by motor-drive/ESC phase errors, sometimes leaving one motor stationary after arming. Freefly issued multiple service bulletins and added motor telemetry protections specifically to detect this condition before takeoff.

GPS Positioning Dropouts

Alta X and Astro aircraft can suddenly lose their GPS fix despite initially tracking many satellites, forcing an unexpected transition from position-controlled flight into altitude mode. Freefly traced documented cases primarily to the u-blox F9P GPS subsystem and its firmware/configuration.

Flight Controller Parameter Memory Corruption

Alta X systems can develop corrupted flight-controller parameter memory, producing abnormal boom LEDs, motor beeping, missing aircraft profiles, or numerous configuration errors in QGroundControl. Freefly documents the condition as involving a hardware defect in Cube flight-controller memory combined with a PX4 software condition.

Motor Mount, Boom, or Retention Hardware Failure

Legacy ALTA 6 and ALTA 8 aircraft have documented failures involving motor mounts, boom retention clips, fasteners, and related structural hardware. Loosened or compromised components can introduce vibration, alignment problems, or potentially unsafe motor/boom movement.

Battery Connector or Mounting-Latch Damage

Astro/SL8 battery connectors and Mōvi battery mounting hardware can become worn, damaged, loose, or improperly latched after repeated use. Poor mechanical engagement can create intermittent power, connector heating, unexpected shutdowns, or batteries that do not reliably remain connected.

Mōvi Pan-Axis Drift

Mōvi Pro and related Freefly stabilizers can develop excessive pan drift when IMU/gyro offsets become unstable or sensor behavior deteriorates. Mild drift is inherent to the MEMS gyro system, while excessive or persistent movement can indicate calibration, IMU, controller, or sensor problems.

Gimbal Motor Oscillation or Shaking

Mōvi Pro, Mōvi XL, and related stabilizers can shake or oscillate when motor control becomes unstable because of excessive gain, poor balance, vibration, sensor disturbance, or control-system interference. The symptom commonly appears as buzzing, rapid axis movement, or an inability to hold the camera smoothly.

GPS/Compass Module or Harness Failure

ALTA-series aircraft can display GPS or compass warnings when the GPS/compass module, cable, or connector becomes disconnected or damaged. Harness faults can eliminate navigation data, prevent normal initialization, or restrict the aircraft to non-GPS flight modes.

1 Acme Revival offers repair, service, and part rebuild opportunities for most Freefly devices.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
