Fredenstein repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Professional Audio
End Use Segment

Fredenstein Professional Audio is a Taiwanese professional-audio equipment manufacturer focused primarily on recording, mixing, broadcast, and project-studio hardware. Its lineup includes 500-series microphone preamps, compressors, equalizers, monitor controllers, module carriers/racks, analog meters, channel processing equipment, and larger outboard processors. The company emphasizes original circuit designs rather than recreations of classic studio equipment, combining analog electronics with digital control where useful. Products are designed by a German-American engineering team and manufactured in Taiwan, with notable proprietary technologies including its OPA2 discrete operational amplifier and digitally controlled analog processing designs. Fredenstein is particularly associated with its Bento 500-series racks, Artistic Series, and higher-end F-series/Golden products, positioning the brand around professional-grade build quality and comparatively accessible pricing.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Power-Supply Buzz or High-Frequency Whine

Bento 6/Bento 6S racks can develop audible buzzing, whistling, or roughly 500 Hz interference that enters the audio path. Reports frequently associate it with heavier module loading or use of 48 V phantom power.

Phantom-Power Hum and Microphone Interference

Bento racks may produce hum, crackling, or high-frequency interference when condenser microphones are operated from the rack's 48 V rail. Grounding, phantom-supply regulation, or rail-noise issues can make otherwise quiet microphones noisy.

Dead or Intermittent 500-Series Slot

Individual Bento rack slots can stop powering or passing signal while the remaining slots continue working normally. Likely faults include backplane connector problems, damaged power distribution, solder failures, or local rail faults.

Power-Rail Overload or Startup Failure

High-current 500-series modules can fail to initialize correctly when a Bento rack is switched on, particularly where startup inrush demand is high. Symptoms include modules failing to boot, abnormal operation, or rail-error indications until the load is reduced or power is cycled.

Artistic Compressor Excessive Input Sensitivity

Early Artistic Compressor units are commonly described as having excessively hot gain staging, making them easy to overdrive before useful compression is reached. Fredenstein's later Compressor Plus configuration addressed the gain-staging behavior associated with the original design.

Artistic Compressor Excessive Hiss

Some Artistic Compressor units are reported to produce substantial audible hiss even after replacement or comparison with other modules. The symptom can persist independently of normal make-up-gain noise and is generally associated with the compressor's analog gain path.

Artistic Leveler Excessive Output Level

The Artistic Leveler can produce an unusually hot output when enough input level is applied to obtain meaningful gain reduction. Users report having to keep the output control near minimum to avoid clipping the following module or A/D converter.

Preamp DI or Line-Input Distortion

Artistic-series microphone preamps have user reports of bass or guitar DI signals distorting more readily than expected through the instrument/line path. Suspected areas include input headroom, gain staging, or the active input circuitry rather than the microphone input itself.

Tube Preamp Noise or Gain Degradation

F609 tube preamps can develop increased hiss, crackling, reduced gain, or unstable output as the ECC802S/ECC803S tubes age or become noisy. Because the F609 uses an all-tube signal path and an internal high-voltage supply, tube wear and associated high-voltage circuitry are primary service points when these symptoms appear.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
