Freakshow HD, LLC is a U.S. professional video-electronics manufacturer and video-assist equipment company founded in 2011 in the Los Angeles area. It specializes in rugged, compact hardware for high-bandwidth video signal distribution and conversion, including 12G/4K SDI distribution amplifiers, reclocking DAs, video switchers, mini converters, transmitters, receivers, and custom electronic systems. The company grew out of a professional video-assist rental operation and uses its production-industry experience to develop equipment intended for demanding film, broadcast, aerospace, defense, and system-integration environments. Freakshow HD emphasizes in-house engineering and manufacturing, including PCB SMT assembly, prototyping, custom product development, and final QC at its North Hollywood facility.
The unit powers on but one or more SDI outputs remain black. Common hardware causes include failed SDI driver or reclocking ICs, damaged signal-path components, or fractured connections between the BNC connector and PCB.
Video periodically cuts out, flashes, or loses synchronization, particularly with 6G/12G signals or long cable runs. Aging BNC connections, marginal reclocker circuitry, damaged termination components, or degraded high-frequency PCB connections are typical hardware causes.
Repeated production use can loosen, bend, or mechanically damage SDI BNC connectors. Cracked connector solder joints or damaged center contacts can cause complete signal loss, intermittent video, or failures that change when the cable is moved.
Battery-powered 2x4 and A/B/C/D models can develop greatly reduced runtime, refuse to charge, or operate only from external DC power. The integrated lithium battery is a wear component whose capacity decreases with charge cycles and age.
The device may fail to power, charge intermittently, or shut down when external power is connected. Likely faults include damaged DC or LEMO-type connectors, protection components, charging circuitry, voltage regulators, or cracked connector solder joints.
An affected MSX or 2x4 unit may pass lower-rate SDI but fail at 6G or 12G, or work only with unusually short cables. Failure or degradation of the high-speed cable equalizer, reclocking IC, reference clock, or associated signal-conditioning components can significantly reduce usable transmission distance.
A/B/C/D and 2x4 switchers may stop responding to input-selection commands or select the wrong signal path. Common hardware suspects include the capacitive-touch circuitry, control processor interface, damaged touch sensor, or switching/control components.
FBTX/FBRX systems may power normally but fail to establish video over one or both optical channels. Contaminated or damaged LC interfaces, failed optical transmitter/receiver modules, SFP circuitry, or associated power rails can produce loss of the fiber link.
High-speed SDI interfaces can suffer electrical damage when voltage potential, static discharge, or improperly grounded accessories reach the BNC signal path. Symptoms include a permanently dead input or output, intermittent operation, or loss of only one channel while the rest of the unit continues functioning.
