Lens adapters can develop excessive rotational or lateral play between the lens, adapter, and camera body as mounting flanges lose tension or retaining screws loosen. The movement can interfere with precise focusing and, in severe cases, optical alignment.
Fusion Smart AF adapters commonly exhibit slow autofocus, repeated hunting, inaccurate focus, or complete loss of autofocus with certain lenses. Older, third-party, and long-telephoto lenses appear especially susceptible to compatibility problems.
Electronic Fusion adapters can cause the attached camera to freeze, become unresponsive, or require a power cycle or battery removal. Lockups are particularly associated with certain video modes, lens combinations, and firmware compatibility issues.
Smart adapters may intermittently fail to control the lens diaphragm, produce aperture fluctuations, or cause visible exposure flashes when changing f-stops. Some reports describe aperture mechanisms becoming unresponsive or remaining at an incorrect opening.
Mechanical and optical adapters can be manufactured slightly outside the required flange-distance tolerance, preventing lenses from reaching true infinity focus or shifting their indicated focusing distances. Even small dimensional errors in an adapter can noticeably affect focus calibration.
Some Fotodiox adapters fit excessively tightly or have release mechanisms that bind, making lenses difficult or impossible to remove normally. Manufacturing tolerances, retaining hardware, or misaligned locking components can cause the lens or adapter to become stuck.
Vizelex and ND Throttle adapters can develop image degradation from contaminated, oily, streaked, or optically problematic internal ND elements. The resulting symptoms include haze, flare, faded areas, reduced contrast, and uneven image sharpness.
Mechanical control rings on ND Throttle and aperture-control adapters can loosen, slip from the selected setting, become imprecise, or jam. Wear in the detent, spring, bearing, or ring-retention mechanism is a recurring cause.
WonderPana filter systems can allow filters to move or fall when the retaining bolts or grooves do not provide sufficient tension. The system's rotating components can also loosen threaded filters during adjustment, increasing the risk of accidental filter release.
