Foster repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Foster Electric Company, Limited is a Japanese global OEM specializing in acoustic and electroacoustic components and systems. Founded in 1949, the company designs, manufactures, and sells speakers, speaker systems, headphones/headsets, earphone drivers, vibration actuators, and related electronic/acoustic products. Its largest business is speakers, accounting for roughly 90% of its disclosed core-business sales in FY2026, with products including automotive speakers and speaker systems as well as speakers for TVs and other electronics. Foster also produces mobile-audio components and specialized automotive acoustic devices such as proximity-warning and emergency-notification speakers. The company is particularly known as a large OEM supplier of speaker and acoustic components, with production concentrated in Asia, including China and Vietnam, rather than at its Japanese headquarters.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Leaking/Failed Audio-Board Electrolytic Capacitors — G16/G24

Surface-mount electrolytic capacitors on G16/G24 record/playback audio boards commonly leak or fail with age and heat. Leakage can cause intermittent or dead channels, crackling, level loss, and corrosion of PCB traces.

Slipping or Cracked Reel-Motor Pulleys — R8

The press-fit plastic pulleys on the R8 reel motors loosen, crack, or slip on their shafts. The resulting loss of torque causes intermittent or complete failure of fast-forward, rewind, and tape take-up.

Slipping Capstan Pulley — R8

The R8's plastic capstan pulley can loosen and rotate independently of its shaft. Playback may stop completely or exhibit severe speed and pitch instability.

Aged or Failed Transport Belts — R8 and Other Tape Models

Capstan and reel-drive belts stretch, harden, slip, or come off their pulleys as they age. Typical symptoms include slow or absent playback, failed winding, unstable tape speed, and transport mechanisms that engage without moving the tape.

Failed LED Level/VU Meter Segments — R8/B16/D8 and Related Recorders/Mixers

LED bar-graph meter modules develop dead segments or substantially stop displaying signal level. Repair reports describe this as a recurring fault across multiple Fostex recorder and mixer designs, sometimes requiring repair or replacement of the meter electronics.

Burned or Open Voice Coil — Fostex/Foster Loudspeaker Drivers

Voice coils can overheat, melt, deform, or become electrically open, resulting in reduced output, severe distortion, or a completely silent driver. Heat damage can also loosen windings and deform the coil former.

Cracked or Separated Diaphragm/Surround — Fostex/Foster Speaker Drivers

The flexible surround or its bond to the diaphragm/voice-coil former can crack or separate with age and use. The defect typically produces buzzing, rattling, distortion, or loss of normal acoustic output.

Open/Failed Tweeter Diaphragm — PM-Series and Other Fostex Speakers

Tweeter diaphragm or voice-coil assemblies can become electrically open, leaving the high-frequency driver silent. Repair may require diaphragm replacement or, when original parts are unavailable, replacement of the complete tweeter assembly.

Loose Headphone Cup/Hinge Hardware — TH900/TH900mk2 Family

Cup-to-headband hinge hardware can loosen with use, allowing the ear cup to move and produce mechanical clicking or rattling. Owner reports describe the issue as recurring and commonly address it by accessing the cup assembly and retightening the hinge fastener.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
