Formlabs repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Formlabs, Inc. is a professional additive-manufacturing equipment company specializing in 3D-printing systems. Founded in 2011 by three MIT graduate students, the company develops and sells professional SLA/MSLA and SLS 3D printers, including the Form and Fuse product families, along with proprietary photopolymer resins, polymer powders, post-processing equipment, and printing software. Formlabs is particularly known for making professional and industrial-quality 3D printing accessible through relatively compact, easy-to-use systems. Its equipment is used for rapid prototyping and end-use production across engineering, manufacturing, dental/medical, automotive, aerospace, consumer products, and other industries. Formlabs reports more than 130,000 printers sold and describes itself as the world's largest supplier of professional SLA and SLS 3D printers.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Print Detachment / Adhesion Failure

Parts or supports detach from the build platform during printing, leaving incomplete parts or cured material in the resin tank. Common contributors include inadequate supports, poor orientation, contaminated resin, or build-platform issues.

Resin Tank / Film Failure

The resin tank's flexible film can become damaged, punctured, delaminated, cloudy, or excessively worn. Tank damage can cause repeated print defects, resin leaks, debris accumulation, and complete print failures.

Layer Shifting

Printed layers become horizontally displaced, producing visible steps, offsets, or distorted geometry. The issue can be associated with mechanical movement, tank or platform seating, print geometry, suction forces, or motion-system problems.

Resin Dispensing / Level-Sensing Failure

The printer fails to maintain the correct amount of resin in the tank, may incorrectly report an empty cartridge, or may stop while filling. Causes can include cartridge or bite-valve problems, sensor calibration faults, blocked resin flow, or dispensing-system failures.

Mixer / Debris Detection Failure

The resin mixer stalls, becomes undetected, decouples, or reports an obstruction during pre-print or printing. Cured resin debris, damaged tank components, incorrect mixer installation, or faults in the mixer drive system can trigger the failure.

Support / Partial Print Failure

Only part of a model prints successfully, with missing sections, broken supports, or geometry that stops forming while other regions continue. Insufficient supports, unsupported minima, resin-tank contamination, orientation, or material-flow problems are frequent causes.

Warping / Dimensional Distortion

Parts curl, shrink, bend, or otherwise deviate from their intended geometry during printing. Orientation, abrupt cross-sectional changes, thermal effects, material behavior, and insufficient support can contribute to the distortion.

Powder Dosing / Recoating Failure

Fuse-series printers can distribute too little, too much, or uneven powder across the print bed, producing missing layers, surface defects, or failed builds. Powder clumping, humidity, contamination, dosing calibration, clogged components, or recoater/motor problems can cause the failure.

Motor / Motion-System Failure

Build-platform, Z-axis, recoater, doser, mixer, or other motor-driven components may fail to home or move to their commanded positions. Obstructions, encoder or sensor faults, cabling problems, motor-drive issues, and mechanical wear can stop a print or prevent one from starting.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
