Firewalla repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Firewalla Inc. is a U.S. cybersecurity and networking equipment company founded in 2016 by a team consisting largely of former Cisco engineers. The company develops integrated hardware and software designed to provide enterprise-style network security in relatively easy-to-deploy appliances for professionals, small and medium businesses, commercial environments, and smaller networks. Its core Firewalla Gold, Orange, and Purple families function as security gateways/firewalls providing traffic visibility, IDS/IPS-style threat protection, network segmentation, VPN, policy controls, parental/user controls, and zero-trust capabilities. Firewalla has expanded beyond standalone firewall appliances into Wi-Fi 7 access points, managed network switches, multi-device MSP management, and zero-trust networking. The company is particularly known for combining advanced network visibility and security controls with appliance-based hardware and mobile-app management, while making much of its software open source.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Severe Upload-Speed Degradation

Affected Firewalla Purple units progressively lose upstream throughput, sometimes dropping from normal broadband speeds to only a few Mbps or less. Firewalla traced a well-documented batch of these failures to defective boards/components or SMT soldering problems in early-2022 Purple production.

Ethernet Port Failure

A WAN or LAN Ethernet port stops establishing a reliable link or stops passing traffic entirely, despite known-good cables and connected equipment. Reports include dead Purple LAN/WAN ports and individual Gold-series ports becoming unusable.

Intermittent Ethernet Link / Packet Loss

An Ethernet interface remains functional but repeatedly disconnects, renegotiates, or experiences severe packet loss, producing intermittent whole-network outages. This has been reported particularly on Purple WAN interfaces and individual Gold SE ports.

Power Supply / Power Delivery Failure

A failing, inadequate, or unstable power adapter causes the Firewalla to lose power, reboot unexpectedly, hang, or become unreachable. Firewalla identifies insufficient power and bad power supplies as common causes of spontaneous reboot behavior across its hardware.

Boot Failure / Boot Loop

The appliance fails to complete startup, remains indefinitely in a booting state, or repeatedly cycles through startup indications. Some Purple owners have reported hardware-diagnosed boot failures, while Firewalla defines a status light remaining in the boot state for more than several minutes as abnormal.

Random Reboots

The Firewalla unexpectedly restarts during normal operation, temporarily taking network connectivity down with it. Power problems are a major hardware-related cause, although memory exhaustion, software faults, and upstream-network problems can produce similar symptoms and must be ruled out.

System Hang / Lockup

The appliance becomes unreachable or stops forwarding traffic and requires a physical power cycle before service returns. Gold and Gold SE owners have reported recurring hangs, with Firewalla recommending power-supply checks and diagnostic logs to distinguish hardware/power failures from software causes.

USB / Peripheral Interface Failure

USB-connected hardware such as the Gold-series security or Wi-Fi dongle is not detected or the USB subsystem fails to initialize correctly. Individual Gold Plus reports describe persistent USB-controller/subsystem symptoms even after an operating-system recovery, although these are less broadly documented than Ethernet or power failures.

Thermal / Cooling Problems

Some Gold-series units, particularly Gold Pro, have been reported operating at very high CPU and Ethernet-PHY temperatures, with owners reporting heavy fan operation or adding supplemental cooling. Actual heat-induced shutdown appears uncommon according to Firewalla, so high operating temperature is more frequently reported than confirmed thermal hardware failure.

1 Acme Revival offers repair, service, and part rebuild opportunities for most Firewalla devices.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
