Trackball / Ring Tracking Failure
Optical trackballs or their third-axis rings can become erratic, insensitive, or unresponsive, interfering with grading adjustments. Trackball behaviour and responsiveness have also required software fixes.
Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.
FilmLight Limited is a UK manufacturer and developer of professional colour-grading, image-processing and media workflow technology used in film, television, commercials and broadcast post-production. The company is best known for its Baselight colour-grading and finishing platform, offered as both software and dedicated high-performance hardware systems, along with Blackboard and Slate grading control panels, FLUX storage, Daylight dailies software, Baselight Editions and Truelight colour-management technology. Its products are designed around an integrated colour workflow spanning production through final post-production and finishing. FilmLight manufactures hardware in London and develops its own dedicated grading control surfaces and systems, while some configurations incorporate third-party workstation components; for example, Baselight ONE is based on a specifically configured HP workstation.
Optical trackballs or their third-axis rings can become erratic, insensitive, or unresponsive, interfering with grading adjustments. Trackball behaviour and responsiveness have also required software fixes.
Optical encoders can fail to register movement correctly or respond inconsistently. Blackboard 2 has specifically had slow encoder movements go unreported, requiring a firmware update.
Blackboard panels may fail to be detected by the Baselight system or may lose their connection during operation. Published fixes include Blackboard 2 detection problems and memory issues associated with reconnecting the panel.
Panel buttons can become unresponsive, incorrectly labelled, or perform the wrong operation. Published Blackboard fixes include broken keypad buttons, incorrect labels, disappearing controls, and incorrect button behaviour.
Blackboard and Slate display screens can fail to update correctly, display incorrect information, or become unresponsive. FilmLight has issued fixes addressing slow Blackboard 2 screen updates and related control-surface display behaviour.
The jog/shuttle wheel can exhibit poor low-speed response or inaccurate navigation behaviour. Blackboard 2 firmware/software changes have specifically addressed responsiveness and timeline-navigation problems with this control.
A failed or unstable external/internal power supply can prevent a Slate or Blackboard panel from powering up or operating reliably. FilmLight panels depend on dedicated DC supplies, including 24 V inputs, making the PSU and its connections a central hardware failure point.
Communication can fail through the panel's host interfaces or associated cabling, resulting in an undetected or partially functioning control surface. Depending on the model, FilmLight panels use USB, DVI-D, or Ethernet connections between the panel and host system.
Baselight ONE, TWO, and X systems can suffer workstation-component, GPU, boot-drive, NVMe/storage, or RAID-related faults that prevent startup or normal operation. FilmLight provides remote fault diagnosis, parts replacement, and hardware repair coverage specifically for FilmLight-supplied systems.
