Ferrofish repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Ferrofish GmbH is a German professional-audio electronics manufacturer specializing in high-density AD/DA converters, digital audio format converters, routers and network-audio interfaces. Founded in 2010 and based in Linz am Rhein, the company develops hardware that connects analog audio with professional digital standards including ADAT, MADI, Dante and AES67. Its major product families include the A32pro, PULSE and VERTO/VERTOpro series, which are used in recording studios, live sound, broadcast, commercial audio, theater and other professional installations. Ferrofish emphasizes high channel density, flexible routing, low-jitter conversion, redundant connectivity and German engineering/manufacturing; the company describes its systems as serving professional audio, live music, broadcast, commercial audio, theater, military and government applications.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Clock / Synchronization Failure

Unit powers on but cannot achieve or maintain clock lock through ADAT, MADI, or word-clock, commonly producing "No Lock," flashing sync indicators, dropouts, or unusable digital audio. Older A16-series units have specifically been reported developing persistent synchronization faults after years of operation.

ADAT Optical Interface Failure

One or more ADAT inputs or outputs stop locking, intermittently lose sync, or cease passing audio despite otherwise normal converter operation. Likely hardware faults include aging optical transmitter/receiver modules, connector damage, or associated digital-interface circuitry.

Power Supply / Power Regulation Failure

The converter may fail to start, restart intermittently, behave erratically, or report an out-of-specification supply rail. Ferrofish hardware uses external DC supplies on several models, while A32-series designs specifically monitor supply voltage and can generate a PSU failure warning.

Analog Input / Output Channel Failure

Individual analog channels may become silent, distorted, noisy, unusually low in level, or intermittent while the remaining channels continue functioning normally. Typical repair targets include converter-channel circuitry, op-amps, protection components, connectors, and surrounding analog components.

MADI / SFP Optical Interface Failure

MADI-equipped PULSE16, A32, A32pro, and VERTO models can develop loss of optical link, intermittent MADI synchronization, or failure of one SFP path. Ferrofish specifically provides MADI-link fault monitoring on newer A32pro hardware, reflecting the interface as a separately diagnosable failure point.

Dante Network Interface Failure

Dante-equipped A32 and PULSE16 DX hardware may disappear from the network, lose audio connectivity, fail to establish redundant links, or become unstable during prolonged operation. Ferrofish previously released Dante firmware addressing a memory-related crash during 24/7 operation and other network-configuration issues.

Display / Front-Panel Control Failure

TFT displays, capacitive controls, rotary encoders, or associated front-panel electronics can become unresponsive, intermittent, dim, or unable to navigate device settings. Ferrofish converters depend heavily on these components for routing, gain, clock, status, and configuration control.

Thermal / Overheating Instability

Excessive internal temperature can cause intermittent operation, digital errors, instability, or accelerated component degradation, particularly in continuously operated rack installations with restricted airflow. A32pro hardware includes dedicated 60°C/70°C temperature alerts and instructs users to restore adequate cooling when triggered.

Headphone Output / Monitor Amplifier Failure

The headphone output may become silent, distorted, noisy, intermittent, or develop an imbalance between channels while the main converter I/O remains functional. Ferrofish uses dedicated headphone amplification circuitry, making the monitor output a distinct repairable signal path rather than simply a passive analog connection.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
