Fatar repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Fatar S.r.l. is an Italian musical-instrument technology manufacturer founded in Recanati in 1956 and best known as one of the major global OEM suppliers of professional keyboard actions and keybeds. Its products include synth-action, semi-weighted, hammer-action, wooden-key and polyphonic-aftertouch mechanisms used in digital pianos, synthesizers, organs, MIDI controllers and other electronic musical instruments. Fatar handles mechanical engineering, injection molding, prototyping, assembly and custom OEM/ODM development, supplying keyboard mechanisms and mechatronic solutions to other instrument manufacturers while also producing finished professional instruments under its Studiologic brand. The company is particularly known for its TP-series keybeds, including the TP/7, TP/8, TP/9, TP/40, TP/100, TP/110 and newer premium hammer-action platforms. FATAR

2 Most Seen Failures:

Dirty or Worn Key Contacts

Conductive rubber contacts and PCB pads can become contaminated, oxidized, or worn, causing dead notes, intermittent triggering, or keys that require excessive force. Cleaning or replacing the rubber contact strips is one of the most frequently documented Fatar keybed repairs.

Incorrect or Erratic Velocity Response

Individual keys may trigger at abnormally high, low, or inconsistent velocities when one of the dual or triple velocity contacts fails to switch correctly. Dirt, worn carbon contacts, deformed rubber domes, or improper contact-strip seating are common causes.

Worn Hammer and Keybed Felt

Impact and cushioning felt gradually compresses or disintegrates, especially in heavily played middle octaves. This produces clacking, excessive mechanical noise, altered key travel, and harsher hammer impacts.

Cracked or Broken Hammer Mechanisms

Plastic hammer components used in several legacy and lightweight Fatar hammer actions can crack or fracture with age, heavy use, or impact. Affected keys may become loose, uneven, noisy, or lose their normal weighted resistance.

Broken or Damaged Keys

Plastic keys can crack at their pivots, spring-retaining points, or weight enclosures, particularly after impact or transportation damage. The key may sag, fail to return properly, or become mechanically disconnected from the action.

Key Return Spring Failure or Displacement

Rear return springs can become detached, stretched, bent, or incorrectly seated. The affected key commonly remains lower than adjacent keys, returns slowly, or develops an uneven mechanical feel.

Keybed PCB Trace Failure

Copper traces on older Fatar contact PCBs can crack, oxidize, or become electrically open with age. This can disable an individual key, groups of keys, or an entire octave even when the rubber contacts themselves remain functional.

Ribbon Cable or Connector Failure

Ribbon cables, IDC/Micromatch connectors, and their crimp connections can loosen, fracture, or become intermittent. Typical symptoms include entire groups of missing notes, intermittent octaves, or failures that change when the chassis or keybed is moved.

Aftertouch Sensor Failure

Aftertouch strips and their ribbon connections can wear, become damaged, or develop intermittent electrical connections. Symptoms include no aftertouch, uneven pressure response, sporadic controller values, or aftertouch that activates without consistent key pressure.

1 Acme Revival offers repair, service, and part rebuild opportunities for most Fatar devices.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
