Extreme Networks repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Extreme Networks, Inc. is a U.S.-based enterprise networking OEM specializing in wired and wireless network infrastructure and cloud-based network management. Its hardware portfolio includes enterprise Ethernet switches, Wi-Fi access points, wireless controllers and related networking appliances, complemented by SD-WAN, network-fabric, security, analytics and management software. The company increasingly centers its portfolio around Extreme Platform ONE, which combines networking, security, AI, automation and management capabilities, alongside ExtremeCloud IQ and its wired/wireless infrastructure. Extreme is particularly known for large-scale enterprise, campus, education, healthcare, government and high-density venue networks, and has expanded heavily into Wi-Fi 7 and AI-assisted/autonomous network operations.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Cooling Fan / Fan Tray Failure

Internal fans or removable fan trays stop spinning, run below their required RPM, or become noisy/clicking. Commonly documented on Summit X150, X250, X430, X460/X460-G2, X480, X650 and X670-series switches and can eventually cause overheating or shutdown.

Power Supply Failure

AC/DC power-supply modules fail, intermittently drop output, display amber/red fault LEDs, or leave the switch unable to power on reliably. Extreme specifically documents failed and developing PSU faults across Summit, BlackDiamond, and other ExtremeSwitching platforms.

PoE Output Failure

PoE-capable switches can stop supplying power to attached access points, phones, cameras, or other powered devices even though normal Ethernet connectivity may remain. Failures can involve the PSU, PoE power circuitry, internal hardware communication, or a corrupted power-budget state.

Ethernet Port Hardware Failure

Individual copper Ethernet ports can lose link, become intermittent, fail packet transmission/reception, or cease supplying PoE while the remainder of the device continues operating. Extreme's hardware diagnostics specifically test physical ports for transmit/receive functionality, and failed AP Ethernet interfaces can prevent an access point from powering through PoE.

Overheating / Thermal Shutdown

Switches can develop excessive internal temperatures because of failed cooling, restricted airflow, incorrect airflow configuration, or prolonged high ambient temperature. Many ExtremeSwitching models protect themselves by shutting down when internal temperature exceeds the thermal limit.

Boot / Mainboard Hardware Failure

A switch may fail during startup, repeatedly halt with kernel-panic or memory/bus errors, or become unable to boot either installed software image. Extreme notes that persistent boot failures after testing alternate images or reinstalling EXOS can indicate underlying hardware failure requiring device replacement.

ASIC / CPU / Memory Hardware Failure

Mainboard components such as switching ASICs, CPU circuitry, memory, registers, or associated buses can fail and cause diagnostics errors, packet-processing problems, crashes, or a completely unstable switch. Extreme's extended hardware diagnostics specifically test registers, memory addresses, ASICs, CPUs, controllers, sensors, and ports for these failures.

Access Point Ethernet / PoE Input Failure

Extreme wireless access points can develop a failed Ethernet/PoE interface, leaving the AP completely dead when powered through its network cable even though it may still operate from an external power adapter. Extreme identifies physical Ethernet-port failure as a cause when known-good PoE injectors, switch ports, and cabling fail to power the AP.

Airflow / Thermal Hardware Fault

Incorrect, failing, or mismatched PSU and fan assemblies can create airflow faults, abnormal temperatures, PSU warnings, and eventual thermal shutdown. Extreme requires compatible front-to-back or back-to-front airflow across installed fan trays and power supplies, making cooling-system faults particularly important on modular Summit and ExtremeSwitching hardware.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
