Expressive E repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Expressive E is a French electronic musical-instrument developer founded around the goal of making electronic instruments respond with the immediacy and physical expressiveness associated with acoustic instruments. The company specializes in MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) technology and is best known for the Osmose expressive polyphonic synthesizer/MPE controller and the Touché/Touché SE gestural controllers, alongside software synthesizers, sound libraries, and its Ctrl-E expressive software ecosystem. Osmose uses a proprietary gesture-sensitive keyboard capable of interpreting pressure, aftertouch and lateral key movement on individual notes, coupled with Haken Audio's EaganMatrix synthesis engine. Expressive E designs its instruments in France and has transitioned Osmose production from outsourced Chinese manufacturing to its own factory in Poland, giving it direct control over assembly and future hardware production.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Key Sensor Failure

Individual Osmose keys can develop faulty or nonresponsive position/pressure sensors, producing a "sensor faulty" warning at startup or causing affected notes to stop responding entirely. Recalibration or firmware updates may not resolve genuinely defective sensors.

Uneven Pressure / Pitch-Bend Response

Osmose keys may respond inconsistently to pressure, aftertouch, or lateral pitch-bending compared with neighboring keys. Symptoms include unusually high activation force, missing pressure response, or one or more keys producing noticeably different pitch-bend behavior.

Raised / Dislodged Keys

Osmose keys can become partially unseated and protrude significantly above the surrounding keybed, particularly following transportation or shipping. The displaced key may require mechanical reseating before normal operation can be restored.

Sticking / Mechanically Abnormal Keys

Individual Osmose keys may stick, click, rub, or otherwise feel mechanically different during their vertical or lateral travel. Problems can originate in the key mechanism, alignment, or the silicone components beneath the keys.

Power Loss / Random Reboots

Osmose units can unexpectedly lose power or reboot when the DC connection is unstable or improperly seated, with similar symptoms possible from power-supply or power-input faults. The locking DC connector must be fully inserted and rotated into its locked position before an actual hardware fault is assumed.

No Audio Output

Some Osmose units power on and register key movement but produce no audio through the main outputs or headphone connection. Reported cases range from configuration or firmware faults to units ultimately requiring replacement when the internal audio path remains nonfunctional.

Boot Failure / Blank Display

Osmose can become stuck during startup, repeatedly reboot, or remain on a blank display instead of reaching normal operating mode. Interrupted firmware transfers are a documented cause, although persistent boot failures can also indicate an underlying hardware or internal communication problem.

USB Connection / Update Communication Failure

Osmose may intermittently disconnect from the computer or fail communication during firmware and DSP transfers. Cable quality, USB hubs, host ports, and power management should be eliminated first, while persistent failures can indicate a USB-interface or internal communication fault.

Touch Surface Calibration / Response Failure

Touché and Touché SE can exhibit incorrect, uneven, or missing response from one or more directions of the pressure-sensitive Skin when calibration or sensing is impaired. Because the controller establishes its neutral sensor position at power-up, persistent directional-response problems after correct recalibration can indicate a sensor or mechanism fault.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
