Expert Sleepers is a British boutique electronic-music technology manufacturer founded by developer and musician Andrew “Os” Ostler. The company specializes primarily in Eurorack modular-synthesizer hardware, particularly products that bridge computers, MIDI, digital audio and modular control-voltage environments. Its catalogue includes multifunction modules such as the Disting family, USB and ADAT audio/CV interfaces such as the ES-8, ES-9 and ES-10, MIDI/CV interfaces including the FH-2, expanders and utility modules, as well as analog synthesis modules. Expert Sleepers is particularly known for integrating modular synthesizers with computers and software through DC-coupled audio/CV interfaces and its Silent Way software suite. The business began with audio plug-ins in 2002, entered modular synthesis with Silent Way in 2009, released its first hardware product—the ES-1—in 2010, and incorporated as Expert Sleepers Ltd in 2013.
ES-8, ES-9, FH-1, and FH-2 units may fail to enumerate or be recognized by a computer, DAW, or connected USB MIDI device. Symptoms include missing interfaces, intermittent detection, or USB peripherals that never become available.
ES-8 and ES-9 interfaces can exhibit intermittent audio dropouts, clicks, crackling, or XRuns during multichannel operation. Problems are frequently associated with USB communication, buffer settings, drivers, sample rates, or host compatibility.
FH-2, ES-9, disting, and related MIDI-capable modules may experience ignored notes, stuck notes, dropped MIDI messages, or nonfunctional MIDI ports. Expert Sleepers firmware releases have specifically addressed MIDI reception and randomly dropped MIDI output messages.
ES-series interfaces may have individual outputs that appear inactive, mirror other channels, or route to the wrong destination. Users commonly encounter this as missing CV/audio outputs or channels unexpectedly being reduced to stereo pairs.
Digital modules such as the disting EX may freeze, crash during startup, or fail to complete their normal boot sequence. Expert Sleepers has issued firmware fixes specifically addressing immediate post-boot crashes.
FH-series and other clock-capable modules may lose synchronization, run a clock incorrectly, or stop generating synchronized MIDI clock after extended operation. This can cause sequencers, arpeggiators, and MIDI/CV systems to drift or stop behaving correctly.
disting mk4/EX and other SD-dependent functions can fail to recognize or reliably read a MicroSD card. This can prevent sample loading, preset access, or firmware installation and may present as missing files or failed update attempts.
CV-capable Expert Sleepers interfaces may produce inaccurate pitch or control voltages because of calibration, configuration, or output-stage problems. Typical symptoms include poor oscillator tracking, incorrect voltage ranges, unstable pitch, or an output that does not respond as expected.
Modules with displays, encoders, and push controls may develop blank/frozen displays or controls that fail to respond correctly. Similar symptoms can also result from firmware crashes or corrupted configuration rather than a defective display or encoder.
