EtherWAN repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

EtherWAN Systems, Inc. is a Taiwan-based designer and manufacturer specializing in rugged industrial Ethernet and network-connectivity equipment. Founded in 1996 and now part of Phoenix Contact Group, the company designs and manufactures industrial and hardened Ethernet switches, PoE switches and solutions, media converters, Ethernet extenders, cellular/wireless gateways, IoT edge devices, surge protectors, and related networking peripherals. Its equipment is engineered for demanding and mission-critical environments rather than ordinary office networking, with applications spanning intelligent transportation systems, rail, IP/video surveillance, utilities and energy, critical infrastructure, and factory automation. EtherWAN is particularly known for industrial Ethernet switches and media converters, including hardened products designed to tolerate extreme temperatures, vibration, electromagnetic interference, and other harsh operating conditions. The company also operates as an OEM/ODM manufacturing partner, offering in-house design, production, testing, private-label customization, certification support, and manufacturing from its Taiwan facility.

2 Most Seen Failures:

[Unexpected Reboot or System Freeze]

Managed EtherWAN switches can unexpectedly reboot, crash, or freeze under certain traffic loads, topology changes, port-state changes, or configuration operations. Documented causes include memory leaks, Giga-Combo port link changes, and specific MSTP configurations.

[Ethernet Port Link Failure or Link Flapping]

Copper Ethernet ports may lose their link or repeatedly transition between link-up and link-down states, interrupting connected devices. EtherWAN switches commonly provide link-down alarms and system logs specifically for detecting these connection failures.

[Fiber/SFP Link Failure]

Fiber ports can fail to establish or maintain traffic because of SFP laser failure, optical signal problems, transceiver issues, or firmware-related port behavior. EtherWAN documents cases where fiber ports failed to receive traffic after reboot and recommends DDM monitoring for optical power, temperature, and laser faults.

[PoE Output Failure]

PoE ports may fail to power connected cameras, access points, or other powered devices, resulting in devices going offline or requiring a power cycle. EtherWAN system logs explicitly report PoE failures, while supported switches provide PoE watchdog/reset functions to recover unresponsive powered devices.

[Insufficient PoE Power at Long Cable Distances]

Long Ethernet cable runs can cause enough voltage drop that a connected PoE device receives insufficient power or fails to operate reliably. EtherWAN specifically documents this issue for extended 250-meter PoE links and notes that available power depends on supply voltage, cable characteristics, and PSE/PD negotiation.

[Power Input or Power Supply Failure]

Loss or instability of a switch's DC power input can cause shutdowns, reboots, or loss of network connectivity. Many EtherWAN industrial models include redundant power inputs and dedicated power-failure relay alarms to detect this condition.

[Traffic Forwarding or Packet-Loss Failure]

Some managed-switch firmware versions have exhibited dropped, misdirected, or unavailable traffic after topology changes, link failures, or routing/QoS operations. Documented examples include incorrect-port forwarding, routing packet loss, multicast forwarding failures, and unstable routing protocols.

[Firmware Upgrade or Boot Failure]

A failed, interrupted, or incompatible firmware upgrade can leave a switch unable to resume the update correctly or introduce boot/configuration problems. EtherWAN documents firmware fixes involving interrupted upgrades and requires special multi-step upgrade procedures for some older firmware revisions.

[Media Converter/Fiber Path Failure]

EtherWAN media converters can lose end-to-end connectivity when either the copper or fiber side of the conversion path fails. Fiber receive-signal loss, failed copper links, or improperly paired LFPT/FEF devices can create outages or situations where one side appears operational even though traffic cannot pass.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
