Evaporative pads and humidifier wicks accumulate mineral deposits and debris, restricting airflow and reducing water evaporation. The resulting symptoms include weak cooling, low humidity output, and reduced airflow.
The circulation pump can stop operating or deliver insufficient water to the evaporative media. Dry or partially wetted pads then cause sharply reduced cooling performance.
Mineral scale and debris can block distribution tubes, trough holes, or other water passages. Uneven water delivery leaves sections of the evaporative pads dry and reduces cooling efficiency.
Floats can become obstructed, misaligned, or improperly adjusted, while float valves can accumulate mineral deposits. These problems can cause false empty-reservoir indications, prevent operation, or allow water to overflow.
Blower belts can become loose, excessively tight, worn, or improperly adjusted. This produces poor airflow, blower instability, motor overload, or complete loss of air delivery.
Blower motors may cycle off from overheating or fail to start because of excessive belt tension, mechanical loading, low voltage, or internal motor failure. Severe cases result in complete loss of airflow.
Dry, worn, tight, or seized blower bearings increase friction and can prevent the blower shaft from rotating correctly. Typical symptoms include noise, motor cycling, overheating, and reduced or absent airflow.
Loose pulleys, rubbing blower wheels, and other loose or misaligned rotating components can cause shaking, abnormal noise, and inefficient airflow. Continued operation can increase mechanical loading on the motor and drive system.
Standing water and contaminated evaporative media can develop mildew, mineral deposits, or other buildup. This commonly produces musty odors and can progressively impair water absorption and evaporative performance.
