Entrust Corporation is a global security technology OEM specializing in identity, payment, and data protection solutions. Its physical product portfolio includes desktop and high-volume card personalization/issuance systems, ID-card printers, passport personalization systems, card delivery equipment, and hardware security modules (HSMs), complemented by identity verification, PKI, authentication, encryption, and digital-signing software and services. Entrust is particularly known for secure credential issuance equipment used by banks, governments, enterprises, and other organizations to produce credit/debit cards, national IDs, driver’s licenses, employee credentials, and passports.
Cards become stuck, lost, or fail to reach the required position in the printer transport, flipper, laminator, multi-hopper, or optional modules. These failures commonly stop card production and require the card to be manually removed or moved to the reject tray.
The printer fails to pick a card from the input hopper, multi-hopper, rear feed, or single-card feed. Improperly loaded cards, card positioning, feed contamination, or problems in the card-pick mechanism can prevent cards from entering the transport path.
The print ribbon or retransfer film fails to move correctly, breaks, wrinkles, or becomes improperly positioned. Printing stops until the supply is repositioned, repaired, or replaced.
A dirty, damaged, or failed printhead can produce lines, missing areas, inconsistent colors, or a critical printhead error. Contamination inside the printer and card slippage can also produce alignment and print-quality defects.
The printer cannot find, read, write, or verify magnetic-stripe data on the card. Incorrect card orientation, incompatible magnetic-stripe stock, incorrect printer settings, or read/write hardware problems can cause the card to be rejected.
The laminator can experience card-position errors, heater faults, debow problems, or failures in its transport areas. Critical heater or laminator faults can cancel the card and require the printer or laminator to be serviced.
The printer fails to establish contact with a smart card or cannot correctly perform the requested encoding operation. Card positioning, encoder/contact problems, incompatible configuration, or communication errors can cause personalization to fail and the card to be rejected.
Dust, card debris, and contamination accumulate on transport rollers, cleaning rollers, and print components, resulting in degraded print quality, card slippage, or unreliable transport. Entrust recommends periodic cleaning and additional cleaning whenever print quality deteriorates.
The printer can stop responding because of USB/network communication problems, internal hardware errors, sensor faults, power-cycle faults, or other critical printer conditions. Some conditions recover after restarting or correcting the connection, while persistent critical errors require service.
