Ensemble Designs, Inc. is a U.S. manufacturer of professional broadcast and video signal-processing equipment, founded in 1989 and now operating as a division of Plura following its 2024 acquisition. The company is best known for the Avenue modular signal-integration platform and BrightEye compact processing products, including frame synchronizers, up/down/cross converters, scan converters, audio embedders/de-embedders, routing switchers, multiviewers, logo inserters, protection switches, sync/reference generators, and related “digital glue” equipment used to connect and manage professional video and audio systems. Its equipment has traditionally targeted television broadcasters, production and post-production facilities, corporate AV, education, and other professional media environments.
BrightEye and Avenue processors can lose SDI or converted video output even while the unit remains powered. Ensemble firmware notes specifically document FIFO faults that caused occasional loss of video output on several Avenue converter models.
Units may fail to lock reliably to external reference, report an unlocked or mismatched reference, or produce unstable synchronized output. Reference-related faults and sync-stability corrections appear repeatedly in Ensemble documentation and firmware histories.
BrightEye hardware can intermittently disconnect from the host computer, preventing configuration, diagnostics, or firmware access. Long-term field reports particularly identify recurring USB/control communication problems on BrightEye units.
A unit or one of its functional interfaces may fail to initialize correctly after power-up, resulting in missing video, network, media-port, or status functionality. Ensemble's NXT firmware history specifically documents occasional startup failure of the Media Port.
Audio channels may be missing, incorrectly routed, corrupted, or exhibit AES parity and embedded-audio handling problems. Ensemble released multiple firmware corrections for AES parity, compressed HDMI audio, and audio-processing behavior.
A processor may stop operating or cease updating its output while still appearing powered. Ensemble documented Avenue boards that could stop running during AGC operation and required firmware correction.
Converters can output the wrong television standard, incorrect format, or unexpected signal configuration despite a valid source. Ensemble firmware histories include corrections for modules outputting NTSC with 625-line inputs and other format-processing faults.
Hardware may indicate no input, an unknown signal, or falsely report signal presence when the incoming video is valid or absent. Ensemble documentation includes signal-presence faults as well as extensive input-status diagnostics intended to isolate this condition.
Affected units may produce intermittent picture breakup, synchronization errors, incorrect chroma, or other processing artifacts during conversion or frame synchronization. Ensemble firmware revisions have addressed component-chroma errors, frame-sync issues, input-sync compatibility, and scaler/deinterlacing behavior.
