Its portfolio spans small kitchen and household appliances such as air fryers, coffee makers, toaster ovens, blenders, grills, mixers, food processors, juicers, kettles, irons and bread makers, alongside personal-care devices including electric shavers, hair dryers, groomers and trimmers. Spectrum's current portfolio includes BLACK+DECKER, Russell Hobbs, PowerXL, George Foreman, Copper Chef, Breadman, Juiceman, Emeril Lagasse and Remington; some names are owned while others, notably BLACK+DECKER and Emeril Lagasse, are operated under trademark licenses. Empower Brands is principally a product-development, brand-management and distribution organization rather than a vertically integrated manufacturer, with most physical production outsourced to Asian contract manufacturers
BLACK+DECKER HGS011 garment steamers can unexpectedly expel, spray, or leak hot water during operation. Empower Brands received hundreds of incident reports involving this failure, including numerous burn injuries.
PowerXL SHL90-SC and SHL96 self-cleaning juicers can rupture while running or shed small particles into the juice. The documented failure produced hundreds of incident reports and resulted in a large-scale product recall.
PowerXL DUAF-10 and DUAF-005 dual-basket air fryers can suffer fracture of the plastic U-channel that joins the two baskets. Breakage can occur while the appliance is hot and may allow the basket assembly or hot food to shift unexpectedly.
Toaster ovens, grills, air fryers, and similar Empower Brands appliances commonly develop a condition where the controls operate but the appliance produces little or no heat. Typical causes include an open heating element, damaged element connection, selector switch failure, or interrupted heater circuit.
PowerXL air fryers and other temperature-controlled appliances can develop open- or short-circuited thermal sensors, while toaster ovens and grills can suffer thermostat drift or failure. Symptoms include E1/E2 error codes, overheating, underheating, erratic cycling, or failure to heat.
Small appliances across the portfolio can become completely unresponsive because of failed internal wiring, thermal fuses, power switches, control boards, or supply connections. A dead display, inactive indicator lamp, or appliance that suddenly shuts down are common manifestations.
Juicers and air fryers use mechanical or electrical interlocks to prevent operation when covers, baskets, or other components are not seated correctly. Worn, misaligned, or failed interlock switches can leave the appliance unable to start even when its main electrical system is functional.
BLACK+DECKER toaster ovens and PowerXL oven-style air fryers can experience loose doors, failed springs or hinges, damaged knobs, and selector mechanisms that no longer engage properly. These failures can prevent the door from closing correctly or stop cooking modes from activating.
PowerXL air fryers and convection appliances can develop fan-motor, bearing, or fan-drive problems that reduce or eliminate forced airflow. Typical symptoms include rattling or buzzing, little air movement, uneven cooking, overheating, or an appliance that heats without circulating hot air.
