Ember Technologies, Inc. is a U.S.-based consumer technology company specializing in electronically temperature-controlled drinkware. It is best known for the Ember Mug and Ember Travel Mug/Tumbler families, which integrate heating elements, rechargeable batteries, temperature sensors, embedded electronics, and app-connected controls to maintain beverages at a user-selected temperature. Ember describes its products as self-heating drinkware rather than conventional external mug warmers, with the heating system built directly into the vessel. The company has developed a substantial patent portfolio around actively heated and cooled drinkware and has expanded its technology into additional temperature-control applications. Ember states that more than 4 million of its products have been sold.
The spring-loaded gold pins in the charging coaster can stick, collapse, or lose spring tension, preventing reliable electrical contact with the mug. This commonly causes intermittent charging, charging only in certain positions, or complete failure to charge.
The internal lithium-ion battery can deteriorate until runtime becomes very short or the mug works only while sitting on the charging coaster. Severely degraded batteries may also prevent normal power-up, resetting, or firmware operations.
Moisture on the mug base can corrode or discolor the gold charging rings and coaster pins, increasing contact resistance and causing intermittent or failed charging. Ember specifically warns that placing a wet mug on the coaster can produce this failure.
The interior coating on Ember Mug and Cup models can scratch, bubble, wear through, or peel away over time. Reports occur even with careful hand washing, although Ember warns that metal utensils and abrasive cleaning can accelerate coating damage.
The mug can repeatedly disconnect, refuse to reconnect, or fail to enter a stable pairing state with the Ember app. Factory resets and Bluetooth re-pairing are frequently required when stored connection data or the mug's communication state becomes corrupted.
Some units become completely unresponsive even after being placed on a known-good charging coaster. Causes reported in aging units commonly include a deeply discharged or failed battery, poor charging contact, or an internal electronics fault.
Some mugs remain stuck at a low or intermediate battery percentage despite spending hours on the charger. The symptom can result from degraded battery cells, intermittent coaster contact, or charging-control problems inside the mug.
The mug may incorrectly report EMPTY or COLD despite containing liquid, preventing the heater from operating normally. This points to abnormal temperature-sensor readings or failure of the liquid-detection logic based on temperature change.
Travel Mug and Travel Mug² models can develop unresponsive or abnormal hidden display and touch-control behavior, making onboard temperature adjustment or status viewing unreliable. Resetting may recover the unit temporarily, but persistent cases indicate a display, touch-sensing, or internal control fault.
