EarthQuaker Devices repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

EarthQuaker Devices (EQD) is an American musical-electronics manufacturer based in Akron, Ohio, specializing primarily in guitar and bass effects pedals, alongside Eurorack/synth modules and related signal-processing devices. Founded by musician and designer Jamie Stillman, the company grew from small-scale basement production into an established boutique effects manufacturer while retaining domestic manufacturing. Its catalog covers fuzz, distortion and overdrive, delay, reverb, modulation, filtering, pitch/octave processing, preamps, utility devices, and experimental effects. EQD is particularly associated with unconventional, highly creative effects such as the Hoof, Afterneath, Dispatch Master, Rainbow Machine, Avalanche Run, Plumes, and Data Corrupter, combining traditional analog designs with digital signal processing and unusual sound-design concepts. The company emphasizes accessible controls and experimental sonic possibilities and currently manufactures its products in-house in Akron, including PCB assembly, enclosure processing, final assembly, and testing.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Footswitch / Bypass Switching Failure

Footswitches and relay-based Flexi-Switch circuits can stop reliably engaging or bypassing the effect, causing intermittent operation, no output, or a pedal that remains stuck in one state. Relay-switched EQD models also require power for signal to pass.

DC Power Input / Power Circuit Failure

A damaged DC jack, protection component, filter capacitor, or other power-input circuitry can cause complete loss of power or intermittent operation. Incorrect polarity or excessive voltage can damage the power section and associated switching components.

Audio Jack / Connection Failure

Input and output jacks can loosen, oxidize, or develop fractured solder connections after repeated plugging and pedalboard use. Symptoms include intermittent audio, crackling, signal loss, or sound returning when the cable or jack is moved.

Dirty Power / Excessive Hum and Noise

Poorly filtered switching supplies, daisy chains, and ground-related problems can introduce hum, buzz, whining, and other unwanted noise. EQD specifically recommends isolated pedal power because supply ripple and unclean power can become audible through its effects.

Insufficient Power / Effect Fails to Operate

Higher-current digital models such as the Avalanche Run may power up incorrectly, mute the signal, reset, or fail to produce the effect when supplied with inadequate current. This can easily be mistaken for an internal hardware failure.

Potentiometer / Control Failure

Frequently used control potentiometers can become noisy, intermittent, mechanically damaged, or develop worn resistive tracks. Typical symptoms are scratching while turning a knob, sudden level changes, dead spots, or a control that no longer affects the circuit correctly.

Footswitch Pop / Switching Transient

Some older mechanically switched EQD designs can produce a pronounced pop or transient when the effect is engaged or bypassed. Early Dispatch Master units in particular have owner reports of conspicuous footswitch popping, while newer relay switching designs reduce this behavior.

PCB Solder Joint / Intermittent Connection Failure

Mechanical stress from switches, jacks, controls, and repeated transport can contribute to cracked or intermittent solder connections. The resulting fault may appear as random signal loss, controls cutting in and out, or operation changing when the enclosure is moved.

Digital Delay / Reverb Processing Failure

Digital EQD models such as the Dispatch Master, Avalanche Run, Afterneath, and other DSP-based pedals can develop faults where dry signal remains but delay/reverb processing disappears, becomes unstable, or produces no effected output. Diagnosis typically involves checking the power rails and analog signal path before isolating the DSP, converter, or surrounding digital circuitry.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
