Drawmer Electronics repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Drawmer Electronics is a British professional-audio equipment manufacturer best known for high-end analog dynamics processing, noise gates, compressors, equalizers, microphone preamps, channel strips, monitor controllers, signal-distribution hardware, speaker protection systems and digital/master-clock equipment. Founded by Ivor Drawmer following development of the DS201 Dual Noise Gate, the company became particularly well known in recording studios, broadcast facilities and live-sound environments for products such as the DS201, DL241/DL441 compressors and the valve-based 1960 series. Its modern range includes the 1970-series analog processors, CMC/MC monitor controllers, 500-series modules, distribution amplifiers and clock-management systems. Drawmer emphasizes that its hardware continues to be designed and built in the United Kingdom, rather than outsourced as generic OEM hardware. Drawmer Electronics

2 Most Seen Failures:

Power Supply / Electrolytic Capacitor Failure

Aging electrolytic capacitors, regulators, rectifiers, or other PSU components can cause no-power conditions, hum, unstable supply rails, excessive heat, or intermittent operation. Older DS201, DL-series, 1960, and similar long-serving rack units are particularly susceptible.

Intermittent or Worn Potentiometers

Front-panel potentiometers can become noisy, intermittent, or develop dead spots, causing signal dropouts or controls that respond only when the knob is moved or pressed. DS201 Range controls are specifically documented exhibiting this behavior.

Dynamics / Opto Cell Failure

Optical gain-control elements used in Drawmer dynamics processors can age or drift, producing incorrect gain reduction, weak compression, channel mismatch, or abnormal attack/release behavior. Opto-cell servicing is specifically identified by professional Drawmer repair services as a common repair requirement.

Calibration Drift / Channel Mismatch

Analog component aging can cause compressor, limiter, gate, and level-control circuits to drift out of calibration. Symptoms include unequal channels, incorrect thresholds, inaccurate gain reduction, or attack/release characteristics that differ substantially between channels.

Dry or Cracked Solder Joints

Mechanical stress and decades of thermal cycling can produce fractured solder connections around potentiometers, connectors, power components, and front-panel assemblies. These faults commonly present as intermittent audio, controls that cut in and out, or operation that changes when the chassis or control is disturbed.

Vacuum Tube / Tube-Supply Failure

Drawmer 1960, 1968, and other valve-equipped processors can develop worn tubes or faults in their heater/high-voltage supply circuitry. Symptoms include increased noise, distortion, reduced output, channel imbalance, intermittent operation, and excessive heating around the tube power-supply components.

Gate / VCA Gain-Control Failure

DS201 and other Drawmer dynamics processors can develop faults in their gain-control path that cause unexpected attenuation, failure to gate correctly, or intermittent level drops while bypass remains normal. Problems may originate in the FET/VCA control circuitry, sidechain electronics, aging capacitors, or associated control components.

Switch / Relay / Contact Failure

Aging bypass switches, mode switches, relays, and jack-normal contacts can oxidize or wear, producing missing audio, intermittent channels, failed bypass functions, or signal changes when controls are operated. Drawmer processors use numerous mechanical switching and relay elements throughout their signal-routing circuits.

Transformer / Mains Power Failure

Older Drawmer rack processors can develop mains-transformer faults or excessive transformer vibration, sometimes accompanied by blown fuses, hum, or complete loss of power. DS201 repair reports specifically document suspected transformer failures associated with repeated fuse blowing.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
