Disguise repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Disguise Technologies, originally known as d3 Technologies, is a UK-based professional media-technology company specializing in high-performance media servers, real-time graphics/rendering systems, show-control software, and virtual-production infrastructure. Its hardware portfolio includes the GX, VX, RX, and EX media-server families, designed to process, render, synchronize, and play large-scale visual content for concerts, touring productions, broadcast studios, film and television virtual production, immersive installations, theme parks, stadiums, and other live experiences. Its hardware operates around the company's Designer software platform, with products ranging from scalable video-playback servers to GPU-intensive real-time rendering nodes and specialist networking hardware such as Fabric. Disguise is particularly known in the professional AV and entertainment industries for powering complex LED-screen environments, projection mapping, extended-reality (xR) stages, real-time graphics, and synchronized visual productions where high reliability and frame-accurate playback are critical. 2 Most Seen Failures:

VFC Video Output Card Failure

VFC cards can fail detection or initialization, resulting in missing HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI, SDI, or IP video outputs. Symptoms include red VFC status, no signal, cards stuck during boot, intermittent Windows detection, or persistent FPGA/configuration errors.

Boot Failure / System Hang

VX and GX media servers can hang during startup, fail to complete Windows boot, or become unstable following BIOS or OS changes. Disguise has issued OS updates specifically addressing sporadic boot hangs and problematic BIOS revisions associated with blue-screen failures.

Front OLED / System Management Controller Failure

The front-panel OLED may become blank, frozen, display jumbled data, or stop communicating with the server's System Management Controller. This is documented particularly on VX-series machines and can occur following re-imaging, firmware changes, or Remora/SMC firmware problems.

Storage Drive / RAID Failure

Media servers using multi-drive RAID storage can develop failed or degraded physical drives, communication-loss states, or degraded RAID arrays. These faults can reduce media-storage availability or performance and may ultimately prevent reliable playback or system operation.

Video Capture Card / Input Failure

Matrox or Deltacast capture hardware can exhibit missing inputs, incompatible input formats, initialization problems, or unreliable capture behavior. Certain VX and GX configurations have also had documented capture-card limitations involving simultaneous SDI refresh rates.

IP-VFC Network / Link Failure

IP-VFC cards can fail to establish an Ethernet link, stop responding, fail initialization, or lose redundant network connectivity. Firmware incompatibility, FEC configuration, card crashes, and earlier firmware bugs are documented causes.

Genlock / Video Synchronization Failure

Unstable or lost synchronization can produce dropped or stuttering video, disabled streams, IP-VFC underruns, or outputs that fail to lock correctly. Disguise documentation repeatedly identifies unstable genlock/PTP signals and firmware/configuration mismatches as causes of these symptoms.

Network Interface / Connectivity Failure

Media servers can lose d3Net, MediaNet, RenderStream, or management connectivity because of physical-link, NIC, addressing, subnet, or high-bandwidth network-interface problems. Typical symptoms include Link Down, failure to obtain an IP address, inaccessible management interfaces, or RenderStream nodes that cannot communicate.

GPU / Display Output Failure

GPU-to-VFC output problems can result in missing displays, incorrect refresh rates, unstable feeds, EDID-related detection failures, or outputs that remain black despite the server running. These faults may originate from GPU driver/OS compatibility, EDID configuration, VFC communication, or GPU/output hardware.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
