Denecke repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Denecke, Inc. is a U.S. electronics OEM founded in 1975 that specializes in precision timecode and synchronization equipment for professional film, television, video, and production-sound applications. The company is particularly known for its electronic timecode clapper slates, which it describes as an industry standard. Its Dcode® product portfolio includes electronic timecode slates, Syncbox timecode generators, master clocks, timecode readers and distribution equipment, along with audio accessories such as microphone power supplies and its Cine Sync® equipment. These devices are designed to keep cameras, sound recorders, and other production equipment accurately synchronized using SMPTE/EBU timecode. Denecke emphasizes high-stability precision electronics and manufactures its Dcode timecode products at its Post Falls facility. Denecke

2 Most Seen Failures:

Clapper Hall-Effect Sensor Failure

The magnetic Hall-effect sensor that detects stick closure can become intermittent or fail completely. The slate then continues displaying rolling timecode after a clap instead of recognizing the sticks as closed, freezing the clap frame, or shutting down the display as expected.

Jam/Generate Switch Failure

The run/read or generate/read switching circuitry can become intermittent, particularly on TS-C units. Affected slates may unexpectedly enter read mode, refuse to jam, or briefly accept a jam before reverting to the wrong operating state.

Timecode Jam / Frame-Rate Recognition Failure

A slate or Syncbox may fail to acquire or retain an incoming timecode signal, especially when signal level, selected frame rate, or auto-jam detection does not agree with the source. Symptoms include error indications, stopped timecode after disconnecting the source, or failure to enter a properly jammed state.

EL Backlight Failure

The electroluminescent backlight used on models such as the TS-3EL and TS-C can stop illuminating or operate intermittently. Failed or deteriorating backlight circuitry may also produce a noticeable high-pitched whine or buzzing sound.

Battery / Power Failure

Weak batteries, poor battery contact, or power-supply problems can cause dim or flickering displays, low-battery warnings, unreliable operation, or complete shutdown. Syncboxes can similarly stop providing dependable timecode or reference outputs as their batteries approach depletion.

Timecode Drift / Loss of Synchronization

The internal timecode generator can gradually diverge from the master source or lose synchronization after a power interruption or unsuccessful jam. Older units may therefore require periodic re-jamming, while abnormal drift can indicate oscillator, configuration, or hardware problems.

LED Display Failure

Individual LED segments, digits, or the entire timecode display can become dim, intermittent, or nonfunctional. Display faults make timecode difficult or impossible for the camera to photograph even when the slate's internal generator continues operating.

Clapper Stick / Magnet Failure

Wear, physical damage, loosening, or deterioration of the magnetic components in the clapper assembly can prevent reliable detection of stick closure. This can resemble an electronic Hall-sensor failure because the slate no longer consistently reacts when the sticks are clapped.

Connector / Timecode I/O Failure

Wear or damage to the 1/4-inch, LEMO, BNC, or other timecode connections can produce intermittent input/output signals and failed jams. Cable or connector faults commonly present as a unit that works when the plug is moved or substituted but cannot reliably receive or deliver timecode.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
