Denafrips repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Denafrips is a Chinese high-end audio electronics designer and manufacturer established in 2012. Its products are manufactured at its own facility in Panyu District, Guangzhou, rather than simply being outsourced to a contract assembler. Denafrips reports performing product design, CNC machining of most aluminum chassis components, transformer manufacturing, final assembly, burn-in, and QA/QC internally, while outsourcing PCB fabrication and some SMD processing. Denafrips The company manufactures R-2R digital-to-analog converters (DACs), digital-to-digital converters, CD transports, network/streaming products, master clocks, preamplifiers, power amplifiers, and headphone amplifiers. It is particularly known in the audiophile market for its discrete R-2R ladder DACs, including the Ares, Pontus, Venus and Terminator families. Denafrips Denafrips has also acknowledged operating an OEM/ODM business, manufacturing products or sharing its engineering/manufacturing capabilities with other audio brands under nondisclosure agreements.

2 Most Seen Failures:

[No Sound / Loss of Audio Output]

Unit powers on normally but produces no audio from RCA/XLR outputs on one or more digital inputs. Reports span Ares/Enyo, Pontus, Venus and Terminator-family DACs, with causes ranging from input/firmware state to internal DSP or signal-path faults.

[USB Input Not Detected or Drops Connection]

The DAC intermittently disappears from the host, fails USB enumeration, or requires disconnecting/reconnecting USB after a computer or streamer restart. DENAFRIPS USB firmware revisions specifically addressed host-handshake and USB out-of-sync behavior.

[Clicks, Pops, Static or Intermittent Digital Noise]

Audible clicks, pops, bursts of static or other transient noise occur during playback, track changes or synchronization. Reports commonly involve digital-interface synchronization, clock/FIFO behavior, USB, optical/coaxial sources or incompatible I²S configuration.

[Power-On / Standby Failure]

The unit remains in standby, repeatedly clicks or cycles its standby indication, shuts itself down, or eventually refuses to power on. Owner reports include Ares II and Pontus units that stopped starting normally despite an intact external fuse.

[DSP / FPGA Board Failure or Connection Fault]

The DAC fails to initialize or operate correctly because the plug-in DSP/FPGA board is defective, improperly seated or has poor socket contact. DENAFRIPS documentation specifically requires these boards and their fine connector pins to be fully and correctly seated.

[Distorted or Corrupted Audio]

Output becomes distorted, fuzzy, abnormally accelerated or otherwise digitally corrupted despite the DAC continuing to produce sound. Documented troubleshooting points to signal-format, synchronization, firmware, filter/decoder, cable and digital-interface problems.

[I²S Input Failure / Incompatibility]

HDMI/RJ45 I²S produces no sound, static, channel errors or unusable audio even though other DAC inputs work. Because I²S has no universal connector pinout, DENAFRIPS provides multiple pinout configurations and warns that a mismatch can generate severe noise.

[Left/Right Channel Phase or Channel-Mapping Error]

Playback exhibits incorrect channel assignment, phase differences or swapped channels, particularly with I²S/DSD configurations or affected firmware. DENAFRIPS added configuration options for DSD channel swapping and released FPGA changes intended to eliminate L/R phase differences.

[Digital Synchronization / FIFO Lock Failure]

The DAC intermittently loses synchronization with its source, causing dropouts, glitches, abnormal playback or temporary loss of audio. DENAFRIPS firmware changes have specifically targeted USB resynchronization and FIFO buffer overrun/underrun caused by differences between source and DAC clocks.

1 Acme Revival offers repair, service, and part rebuild opportunities for most Denafrips devices.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
