Decimator Design repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Decimator Design Pty Ltd is an Australian manufacturer of professional video signal-processing equipment primarily serving broadcast, live production, studio, and professional AV applications. The company designs and manufactures its products in Sydney and specializes in compact SDI/HDMI video converters, cross-converters, scalers, multiviewers, distribution amplifiers, test-pattern generators, and related signal-management hardware. Decimator is particularly known among broadcast engineers and video-production professionals for its portable MD-series converters and DMON multiviewers, which handle conversion, scaling, monitoring, and routing between professional SDI and HDMI video formats. Its products have developed a reputation for combining extensive broadcast-oriented functionality with compact, rugged hardware and relatively cost-effective pricing.

2 Most Seen Failures:

HDMI Input Failure

The HDMI input stops detecting otherwise-valid sources even after cables, sources, and settings are eliminated as causes. This is particularly reported on the MD-HX, with some fleet users describing multiple units developing dead HDMI inputs.

HDMI Output Failure

The HDMI output stops producing a usable signal while other functions of the converter may continue operating. Reports include early-life HDMI-output failures on 12G-CROSS units and broader reports of HDMI-circuit faults on early units.

Power Supply / Power Failure

The converter fails to power on, powers intermittently, or appears completely dead because its external supply, USB power cable, or associated wiring has failed. Users report worn-out supplies and cable shorts, particularly with older MD-HX-size units.

SDI Input Failure

The SDI input ceases to detect a known-good SDI source despite cable, source, and configuration checks. Long-term users have reported individual MD-HX units eventually losing their SDI input after years of service.

SDI Output Failure

One or more BNC/SDI outputs stop carrying video while other outputs or converter functions continue working. Documented MD-HX cases include failed Output 1 connections that required manufacturer-recommended repair.

HDMI Handshake / EDID Failure

The converter and HDMI source fail to negotiate a usable video connection, resulting in “no input,” repeated signal acquisition, or intermittent blackouts. Laptop and USB-C-to-HDMI sources are particularly associated with this behavior, and inserting an EDID emulator or another converter can sometimes restore operation.

Intermittent / Unstable Video

Video periodically glitches, blanks, flickers, or loses lock even though a signal is present. Reported causes around Decimator installations include signal-integrity/jitter problems, marginal HDMI connections, incompatible downstream equipment, and conversion or timing interactions.

Firmware / Configuration Malfunction

A unit appears defective because firmware state or routing, scaling, frame-rate, SDI Level A/B, or output-source settings prevent a valid signal from reaching the destination. Firmware reflashing/updating and correcting configuration are repeatedly reported as fixes for apparently failed units.

USB Control / Firmware Connection Failure

The computer fails to recognize the converter over USB, preventing control or firmware updates. Troubleshooting guidance identifies faulty USB cables, missing drivers/software, and USB connection problems as recurring causes.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
