The console intermittently or completely loses data from the outdoor sensor suite, resulting in dashed or missing readings. Common causes include weak RF reception, interference, excessive distance or obstructions between the transmitter and console.
The rain collector records less rainfall than actually occurred or stops registering rain entirely. Debris, insects or dirt can obstruct the funnel, tipping spoon/bucket or associated mechanism and prevent reliable tipping.
Wind cups may spin slowly, stop turning or rotate while the console continues to display zero or incorrect wind speed. Typical hardware causes include debris or insects, cup-to-shaft slippage and worn or stiff anemometer bearings.
The displayed wind direction can become fixed, intermittent or disagree with the physical position of the wind vane. Misalignment, installation errors, vane/sensor problems or anemometer hardware degradation can produce this behavior.
Outdoor temperature or humidity readings may become implausible, intermittent, fixed or disappear completely. Aging temperature/humidity sensor assemblies, damaged connections and sensor deterioration are common hardware-related causes.
The sensor suite reports a low-transmitter-battery warning or begins losing transmissions, particularly overnight. An exhausted CR123 lithium backup battery, inadequate solar charging or faults in the transmitter power system can cause the failure.
Older Vantage Pro2 transmitter boards can develop a failing supercapacitor that causes unusually rapid backup-battery depletion and eventual loss of transmissions. A characteristic symptom is batteries lasting only days or months instead of their normal multi-year service interval.
Sensor Interface Module faults or loose/corroded sensor connections can cause one or more outdoor measurements to disappear or operate intermittently. Loose sensor connections account for a substantial portion of intermittent sensor problems documented for Vantage Pro2 systems.
Vantage Vue and Vantage Pro2 consoles can become unresponsive, appear dead or display abnormal/stuck LCD segments. Power problems, internal console faults and communication issues with attached hardware such as data loggers can produce these symptoms.
