Datalogic S.p.A. is an Italian technology OEM specializing in automatic data capture and industrial automation equipment. It designs and manufactures barcode scanners/readers, mobile computers, RFID equipment, industrial sensors, machine-vision systems, safety and measurement sensors, and laser-marking systems. Its equipment is primarily deployed in retail, manufacturing, transportation and logistics, and healthcare environments. Datalogic is particularly well known for barcode-scanning technology and retail checkout scanners; the company traces its history to the first commercial barcode scan and has become a major supplier of fixed and handheld scanning equipment. Today it has roughly 2,700 employees and about 1,200 patents/patent applications, with manufacturing and repair operations spanning six countries.
The scanner fails to read barcodes reliably or stops scanning entirely. Causes documented across Datalogic models include failed optical/laser components, internal scanner faults, or scan-engine-related hardware problems.
The device fails to power on, powers off unexpectedly, or shows no normal status indicators. Common hardware points to check include the AC/DC adapter, power cord, power connector, outlet, and terminal-supplied power connection.
The scanner powers up but cannot communicate reliably with the POS terminal or host computer. Datalogic diagnostic documentation identifies interface-board faults, disconnected interface hardware, and communication-link failures as possible causes.
Scanner-scale models may stop weighing, return incorrect readings, or report a dedicated scale-module or load-cell error. Datalogic Magellan diagnostics explicitly identify scale module/load-cell failure as a service-level hardware fault.
The integrated scale loses its calibration and can no longer provide valid weight measurements. Affected Magellan models report a calibration error and generally require recalibration and, where applicable, recertification.
Communication between the scanner electronics and integrated scale is lost, preventing weight information from being returned correctly. Datalogic documentation associates this condition with internal scanner/scale problems and recommends checking the scale's cable connections before hardware service.
Mobile computers may fail to charge normally, stop charging, or exhibit abnormal charging-status behavior. Datalogic documentation notes that charging can stop because of failures and identifies the battery, charging contacts/dock, power supply, and charging system as relevant components.
The remote scale display may stop operating or communicating with the scanner-scale. Datalogic diagnostics identify the display itself and its connecting cable as potential defective components.
A scanner control button or handheld trigger can become stuck or fail to actuate normally, interfering with operation. Datalogic Magellan diagnostics specifically identify a stuck control button as a hardware error requiring the button to be freed or the unit serviced.
