Damage Control Engineering repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Damage Control Engineering LLC, doing business primarily as Strymon, is a California audio-electronics manufacturer specializing in professional and enthusiast musical equipment. The company designs and manufactures high-end guitar effects pedals and audio-processing hardware, including delay, reverb, modulation, drive and amplifier-modeling pedals, as well as Eurorack modules, MIDI interfaces and isolated power supplies. Strymon is particularly known for combining sophisticated DSP-based signal processing with rugged pedal-format hardware, with products such as the BigSky, Timeline, Mobius, El Capistan, Flint and Deco becoming widely used by recording and touring musicians. The company states that its products are designed and built in the United States, specifically in the Los Angeles area

2 Most Seen Failures:

Power Input / Startup Failure

Pedal fails to power on, repeatedly resets, or behaves erratically due to a damaged DC input circuit, incorrect polarity, insufficient current, or power-supply failure. Strymon digital pedals generally require regulated 9VDC center-negative power and can be damaged by excessive voltage.

Footswitch Failure

Bypass, preset, tap-tempo, or effect-engage footswitch becomes intermittent or stops registering presses after repeated mechanical use. Damage Control/Strymon specifically supplies replacement momentary footswitches for many pedal models.

Audio Output Loss / Intermittent Signal

Pedal powers normally but produces no audio, intermittent output, or signal on only one channel. Typical hardware causes include worn input/output jacks, damaged jack contacts, connection faults, or failures in the analog input/output circuitry.

Hum / Buzz / Excessive Noise

Audible hum, buzzing, clicks, or elevated noise appears in the signal path, particularly with non-isolated or daisy-chained power systems. Ground-loop faults, compromised cable grounds, power-supply noise, and grounding problems are common causes.

Firmware / DSP Boot Failure

Digital pedals may become stuck in update mode, display blinking LEDs, fail to boot normally, or exhibit abnormal operation after an interrupted firmware update. USER and DSP firmware can become mismatched, requiring firmware recovery or reprogramming.

USB / MIDI Communication Failure

Pedal is not detected by the computer, firmware updater, MIDI controller, or editor software. Problems can originate from damaged USB/MIDI connectors, cable faults, interface compatibility, drivers, or failure of the pedal's communication circuitry.

Static / Corrupted Digital Audio

Output develops harsh static, bit-crushed audio, digital artifacts, or abnormal processing even though the basic signal path remains operational. DSP/firmware faults are documented on some models, including an Iridium issue that produced static-like ROOM ambience audio.

Control Knob / Encoder Malfunction

Rotary controls may become intermittent, jump between values, fail to respond consistently, or produce incorrect parameter changes. Mechanical encoder/potentiometer wear, contamination, solder-joint problems, or control-board faults can produce these symptoms.

Power Supply Output Failure

Zuma, Ojai, and related power hardware may develop an inactive or unstable output, leaving connected pedals unable to start or operating intermittently. Likely service faults include DC connector damage, switching/regulation circuitry faults, or protection-stage/component failure.

1 Acme Revival offers repair, service, and part rebuild opportunities for most Damage Control Engineering devices.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
