Cybernetics repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Cybernetics is a privately held American computer-hardware manufacturer specializing in enterprise data storage, backup, and archival systems. Founded in 1978 and based in Yorktown, Virginia, the company designs and manufactures disk-storage systems, SAN products, tape drives and libraries, virtual tape libraries (VTLs), SSD-based storage systems, and integrated backup appliances. Cybernetics has historically focused on high-performance on-premises storage and data-protection infrastructure for businesses, government agencies, law enforcement, and other organizations requiring dependable long-term data retention. The company highlights several storage-industry innovations, including hardware compression and encryption for tape backup, virtual-library technology for disk-to-disk-to-tape environments, and iSCSI-connected tape systems. Its products are manufactured in the United States, with evidence of system assembly occurring at its Yorktown production facility.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Drive Failure / Degraded RAID

One or more HDDs or SSDs fail, producing degraded RAID arrays, reduced capacity, warning indicators, or unavailable volumes. Aging disks and accumulated read/write errors are a primary hardware failure point in Cybernetics SAN, CyberDisk, iSAN, and VTL storage systems.

Power Supply Failure

A failed or deteriorating power-supply module can cause a Cybernetics chassis to remain completely dead, shut down unexpectedly, reboot intermittently, or report a redundant-power fault. Power-supply capacitors, switching components, and cooling-related thermal stress are typical component-level causes.

Cooling Fan Failure / Overheating

Worn or stalled chassis and power-supply fans reduce airflow and can cause elevated drive, controller, and PSU temperatures. Systems may generate thermal alarms, become unstable under sustained backup loads, or shut down to protect hardware.

RAID / Storage Controller Failure

Controller faults can prevent disks or logical volumes from being recognized and may leave a SAN or VTL inaccessible even though individual drives remain functional. Symptoms include failed initialization, controller alarms, degraded performance, or inability to mount storage.

Tape Drive Read / Write Failure

Cybernetics tape systems can develop difficulty reading, writing, verifying, loading, or ejecting cartridges as the tape drive mechanism and heads wear or become contaminated. Backup jobs may consequently fail verification, repeatedly retry, or report media/drive errors.

Tape Loading / Transport Mechanism Failure

Mechanical loaders, robotics, motors, belts, sensors, and cartridge-handling components in physical tape libraries can wear or lose alignment. Typical symptoms include cartridges that will not load or unload, stalled library operations, inventory errors, or failed tape-export operations.

Network Interface / Connectivity Failure

Ethernet, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, or related interface faults can cause hosts to intermittently lose access to Cybernetics storage. Failed NICs, interface circuitry, cabling/port problems, or controller faults may present as dropped connections, missing targets, or severely reduced transfer rates.

Controller / Firmware Boot Failure

A storage appliance may power on but fail to complete initialization because of controller hardware, boot-media, configuration, or firmware problems. Common symptoms include hanging during startup, repeated reboot cycles, unavailable management interfaces, or storage services failing to become ready.

Cache / Battery Backup Failure

Aging cache-protection batteries, supercapacitors, or associated controller circuitry can trigger cache warnings and force a storage controller into a reduced-performance or write-through mode. Systems may remain operational but exhibit substantially slower write performance until the failed protection hardware is serviced.

1 Acme Revival offers repair, service, and part rebuild opportunities for most Cybernetics devices.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
