Cranborne Audio is a British professional-audio equipment manufacturer founded in 2017 by engineers with backgrounds in the pro-audio industry, including experience at Soundcraft. The company develops studio recording and signal-processing hardware aimed at recording engineers, producers, musicians, and professional studios. Its product range includes microphone preamplifiers, 500-series modules and racks, USB and ADAT audio interfaces, analogue summing and monitoring systems, headphone distribution equipment, harmonic EQs, compressors, and its proprietary C.A.S.T. analogue-audio-over-Cat-cable system. Cranborne is particularly known for combining modern high-headroom analogue and digital engineering with the tonal character associated with classic studio hardware, exemplified by products such as the Camden preamps, 500R8/500ADAT systems, and Carnaby Harmonic EQ.
The front power switch on 500ADAT/500R8-family hardware can become non-responsive or remain electrically stuck in the ON state. Owners report having to disconnect mains power or use an external switched outlet because the unit will no longer shut down normally.
500ADAT and 500R8 systems can experience failure to establish or maintain reliable digital clock synchronization with connected interfaces. Symptoms include loss of sync, intermittent audio, clicks, pops, or operation only when devices are powered in a particular sequence.
Individual ADAT input or return channels can stop passing audio while the remaining digital channels continue operating normally. Reports include previously functional channels losing return signal following firmware changes or normal operation.
500R8 units can intermittently fail to enumerate or establish a USB connection with the host computer. The unit may otherwise power normally while the computer no longer recognizes the audio interface.
An individual 500R8 analog/XLR input can become completely inactive while the other channels remain functional. Similar no-signal symptoms can occur on Camden 500 modules from connector, module seating, or backplane-contact faults.
The small routing and function switches used on 500R8 hardware can loosen, rotate freely, or cease reliably changing their assigned function. Multiple switches may be affected on a defective unit, disrupting source selection and routing.
500R8, 500ADAT, and Camden-series equipment can produce audible pops or clicks during switching, gain adjustment, or when digital synchronization is unstable. Persistent occurrences can indicate clocking problems, control-contact issues, or instability in the associated signal path.
Camden 500 modules can develop abnormal or excessive distortion when the Mojo control is engaged, particularly toward higher Cream settings. The affected saturation path may become effectively unusable even while the clean preamplifier section continues working.
500ADAT summing-mixer level and pan potentiometers can become unusually loose and easy to move. Small bumps can substantially alter channel level or pan position, making mix settings unstable and difficult to retain.
