Contour Design repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Contour Design is a Danish-headquartered computer-hardware manufacturer specializing in ergonomic computer input and control devices designed to reduce repetitive strain and improve comfort and productivity during computer use. Founded in 1995, the company develops products including its well-known RollerMouse central pointing devices, UniMouse ergonomic mice, Balance keyboards, and Shuttle multimedia controllers. Its core focus is workplace ergonomics, particularly alternative pointing devices that encourage healthier hand, wrist, arm, and shoulder positioning for office and professional computer users. Contour describes itself as a market leader in ergonomic computer hardware research, development, and design and operates internationally across six continents. The company was acquired by Polaris Private Equity in 2021 and maintains its global headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark, while its production setup is in China.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Rollerbar Tracking Failure

RollerMouse models can develop erratic, jerky, drifting, or completely unresponsive cursor movement from contamination or wear in the rollerbar tracking mechanism. Dirt buildup around the optical sensing surfaces and roller assembly is a frequently documented cause.

Scroll Wheel Failure

RollerMouse and Unimouse models commonly exhibit intermittent scrolling, erratic direction changes, skipped scroll inputs, or a completely nonresponsive wheel. Contour specifically recommends cleaning the wheel mechanism before determining that the hardware requires service.

Button / Microswitch Failure

Programmable, copy/paste, left-click, right-click, and other physical buttons can stop registering or respond intermittently. Contour identifies physical button damage as a possible cause when the computer receives no input despite testing the device directly on another system.

Wireless Pairing / Connection Failure

Wireless RollerMouse and Unimouse models can lose pairing with their USB receiver or Bluetooth host, resulting in intermittent communication or complete loss of mouse function. Re-pairing is a prominent troubleshooting procedure across Contour's wireless product support.

USB / Device Detection Failure

RollerMouse models may fail to enumerate or register with Windows, leaving the device absent from the Contour driver or Device Manager and potentially unusable. Direct USB connection, driver repair, and reinstallation are recommended to distinguish software problems from device-side hardware failure.

Rollerbar Click Failure

The RollerMouse rollerbar's integrated click function can become inconsistent, excessively sensitive, difficult to actuate, or fail to register presses. After click-force settings and driver configuration are eliminated, the rollerbar switch or associated mechanism becomes a likely hardware fault.

Cursor Tracking / Sensor Contamination

RollerMouse models can develop poor cursor accuracy, unwanted movement, or inconsistent tracking as dust and debris accumulate around the rollerbar and internal sensing system. Contour maintains dedicated cleaning procedures specifically for correcting bad cursor movement.

Unimouse Thumb Rest / Hinge Breakage

The adjustable thumb support on Unimouse models can physically break or become mechanically damaged during use. Contour explicitly documents broken thumb rests as a hardware issue for which warranty support may be required.

Shuttle Jog / Shuttle Ring Input Failure

ShuttlePRO and ShuttleXpress controllers can experience problems where the jog wheel or spring-loaded shuttle ring does not produce the expected transport commands despite other programmable buttons functioning. Symptoms may stem from the rotary input mechanism itself or from driver/application communication and mapping problems.

1 Acme Revival offers repair, service, and part rebuild opportunities for most Contour Design devices.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
