Concept2 repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Concept2 is an American sporting and fitness-equipment manufacturer founded in Vermont in 1976 by brothers Peter and Dick Dreissigacker, initially to produce composite racing oars. The company became internationally known for its indoor rowing ergometers, beginning with the Model A in the early 1980s, and today its core equipment lineup includes the RowErg, SkiErg, BikeErg and StrengthErg, along with sweep and sculling oars and its Performance Monitor electronics. Concept2 equipment is widely used for competitive rowing training, indoor racing, functional fitness, commercial gyms and home exercise, with its RowErg particularly established as a standardized performance-measurement platform in rowing. The company continues to design, manufacture, assemble, sell and support equipment from its Vermont operation while maintaining additional production capacity for international markets.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Chain and Sprocket Wear

RowErg and older Model B–E machines can develop skipping, rough operation, or stiff chain links as the chain and sprocket wear. Severe sprocket wear or a chain that continues skipping after cleaning and lubrication generally requires replacement of both components.

Shock Cord / Return Mechanism Failure

The handle may hang loose, retract slowly, or fail to return completely when the shock cord stretches, loses elasticity, frays, or becomes improperly tensioned. Aging shock cords are a common mechanical wear item across Concept2 indoor rowers.

Seat Roller Wear

Worn, dirty, or damaged seat rollers can produce a bumpy ride, clicking or ratcheting noises as the seat moves along the monorail. Cleaning can resolve contamination-related symptoms, while persistent roughness generally requires replacement of the upper seat rollers.

Performance Monitor Stuck at Zero

PM-series monitors may power on normally but fail to register strokes, distance, speed, or other workout data because of a defective or disconnected pickup/generator cable, sensor, or generator coil. Cable and pickup failures are documented across multiple generations of Concept2 equipment.

Performance Monitor Power / Battery Failure

PM3, PM4, and PM5 monitors can experience intermittent power, premature low-battery warnings, resets, flickering, or complete loss of operation from depleted batteries, poor battery contact, or generator-system faults. Early PM5 units are specifically documented as susceptible to loose-battery problems causing resets, backlight flickering, and error messages.

SkiErg Cord Wear and Failure

SkiErg handle and bungee cords gradually wear, fray, stretch, or become twisted through repeated operation. Cord twisting can also cause a lumpy or uneven pull and accelerate wear until cord or bungee replacement becomes necessary.

Flywheel Airflow / Resistance Loss

RowErg and SkiErg machines can develop noticeably reduced resistance when dust and lint accumulate inside the flywheel enclosure and restrict airflow. Mechanical problems with the flywheel, damper, or associated components can produce similar resistance complaints when cleaning does not restore normal operation.

Generator Coil / Pickup Failure

The generator coil and associated pickup circuitry can fail to produce the signal or electrical output required by the Performance Monitor. Typical symptoms include a PM that does not wake during exercise, stays at zero, or operates only from its batteries despite the flywheel moving normally.

Monorail / Seat Track Wear

Long-term use can wear or damage the stainless monorail track, while accumulated debris produces rough seat travel and repetitive clicking or vibration. Heavily worn tracks, damaged surfaces, or persistent rough travel after cleaning can require track or related seat-component replacement.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
