CMS Products repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

CMS Products, Inc. is a U.S. computer-storage and data-security company specializing in backup, disaster recovery, encrypted storage, and PC storage products. Established as CMS Enhancements in 1983 and renamed/reorganized as CMS Products in 1997, the company is particularly known for its BounceBack backup and recovery software and backup-drive systems, along with its CE-Secure family of encrypted external hard drives and USB flash drives. Its hardware offerings include portable and desktop external storage, encrypted drives, flash storage and associated storage accessories, serving businesses, government agencies, educational institutions and consumers. CMS differentiates its products by combining storage hardware with proprietary backup/recovery and encryption technology; current hardware offerings include AES-256 encrypted and FIPS-certified options, with multiple product lines identified as assembled in the United States.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Drive Not Detected / Recognized

The CMS backup drive is connected but does not appear in the operating system. Documented troubleshooting points to loss of power, loose connections, USB/eSATA interface problems, or failure of the host to enumerate the drive.

Hard Disk / SSD Media Failure

The internal SATA HDD or SSD develops disk errors, degraded health, or becomes completely inaccessible. CMS specifically identifies disk-health deterioration and eventual HDD/SSD failure as risks that can cause data loss or make a backup drive unusable.

USB / eSATA Interface Failure

The storage device powers on but cannot establish a reliable data connection with the computer. The fault can present as an unrecognized drive, intermittent disconnections, or an inability to communicate through the selected USB/eSATA interface.

Power Supply / Power Adapter Failure

The drive does not power on, its power/status LED remains off, or the disk cannot initialize. Desktop CMS backup models depend on an external AC adapter, while portable models receive their operating power through the USB connection.

USB Cable / Connector Failure

A damaged, loose, or poorly seated USB cable or connector prevents reliable power or data transfer. The resulting symptom is commonly a drive that intermittently disconnects or is not detected at all.

External Enclosure Electronics Failure

The SATA drive itself may remain functional while the electronics inside the external enclosure stop providing a usable host connection. This can make a working internal disk appear to be a failed external backup system.

Hard Drive Mechanical Failure

HDD-based CMS models can suffer mechanical disk failure that prevents normal reading, writing, or startup. A severe failure can leave the external drive inaccessible even when its enclosure still receives power.

Physical / Shock Damage

Impact or other physical damage can damage the disk, enclosure, connectors, or associated electronics and render the unit unusable. CMS specifies shock tolerance for its portable HDD products and excludes physically damaged products from normal warranty processing.

Intermittent Read / Write Failure

The backup device remains detectable but develops unreliable or degraded disk I/O, producing failed transfers, poor performance, or inaccessible data. Disk-health monitoring documentation associated with CMS hardware identifies unexpected disk behavior, declining health, and transfer-speed degradation as indicators of developing drive problems.

1 Acme Revival offers repair, service, and part rebuild opportunities for most CMS Products devices.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
