City Theatrical repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

City Theatrical is a U.S. manufacturer specializing in professional lighting technology, accessories, and OEM/custom manufacturing for the live entertainment, film/television, and architectural lighting markets. Founded in 1986, the company manufactures products in Carlstadt, New Jersey, including wireless DMX/RDM technology, LED tape and dimming/control products, beam-control accessories such as barndoors and top hats, lighting hardware, and electronics. Its Multiverse wireless DMX/RDM platform is a particularly prominent part of its technology portfolio, and the company also integrates its technology into products for other lighting manufacturers through OEM relationships. City Theatrical is known for maintaining substantial in-house U.S. manufacturing capabilities—sheet-metal fabrication, CNC production, welding, powder coating, electronics/electromechanical assembly and testing—rather than functioning simply as a lighting-product distributor.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Unit Does Not Power Up

City Theatrical dimmers, Multiverse Nodes, Receiver Cards, and Transmitters can fail to power up due to supply, polarity, fuse, connector, or internal power-component faults. Some models may still power over USB despite failure of their normal power input.

Powers Up but No DMX Control

Hardware may boot normally but fail to respond to control data because of incorrect DMX addressing, wiring/polarity, operating mode, console patching, or configuration. This symptom is documented across QolorFLEX dimmers, Multiverse Receiver Cards, Nodes, and Transmitters.

Wireless Link / Radio Failure

Multiverse and SHoW DMX hardware may lose wireless operation because of an unseated or failed radio module, antenna/configuration problems, or mismatched SHoW ID, SHoW Key, and universe settings. Certain D4 and SHoW Baby failures specifically involve the radio becoming disconnected from the main PCB.

Short Circuit / Overcurrent Failure

QolorFLEX dimmers explicitly report short-circuit, output-overcurrent, and total input-overcurrent faults, while other City Theatrical hardware can exhibit internal shorts. Severe shorts or overloaded outputs can damage components or require factory repair.

Overtemperature / Voltage Fault

QolorFLEX dimmers monitor and report overtemperature, undervoltage, and overvoltage conditions. These electrical conditions can shut down or disrupt output and are represented by diagnostic status-light blink codes.

Blown Fuse / Power-Input Failure

Several City Theatrical models can lose their primary power path because of a blown fuse or related input-stage fault. Examples include the 5942 dimmer powering from Micro USB but not its main power terminals and 5906/5907 Receiver Cards failing through their normal supply path.

Firmware / Bootloader Failure

Multiverse Nodes, Transmitters, dimmers, and other programmable hardware can become stuck in bootloader mode or experience failed firmware updates. Persistent update or boot failures can indicate processor, reset-circuit, solder, or other hardware faults requiring repair or replacement.

DMX Output Flickering / Data Corruption

Connected fixtures can flash, move unexpectedly, pulse, or work only partially because of DMX wiring faults, missing termination, damaged cables, RDM compatibility problems, or a failing DMX processing circuit. Receiver Cards and Studio Receivers specifically document these intermittent-output symptoms.

Charging / Battery-System Failure

Battery-powered City Theatrical products can develop reduced battery runtime or charging-system failures. QolorPoint batteries may require replacement after failing runtime/voltage tests, while a Multiverse Studio wireless-charging failure can require replacement of the entire main PCBA.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
