Power Supply Unit Failure
Power-supply components can fail prematurely, causing loss of DC output or complete loss of power to the device. Documented examples affect Cisco ISR, Nexus, and Catalyst-family hardware.
Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.
Cisco Systems, Inc. is a global technology OEM specializing in networking, communications, cybersecurity, collaboration, and observability technologies. The company is best known for enterprise and data-center networking equipment, particularly Ethernet switches, routers, wireless networking systems, servers, and related networking software. Cisco also produces security appliances and software, Webex collaboration devices and services, and infrastructure used by enterprises, data centers, telecommunications/service providers, and cloud operators. Networking remains its largest product category, generating approximately $34.7B of FY2026 revenue. Cisco primarily designs and sells these technologies while relying on third-party contract manufacturers and supply-chain partners to physically manufacture its hardware.

Fans or fan assemblies can fail, slow down, or operate incorrectly, resulting in inadequate airflow and elevated temperatures. Persistent cooling failure can trigger thermal protection, component shutdowns, or hardware degradation.
Certain Cisco routers, firewalls, switches, and other appliances contain clock-signal components that can degrade after extended operation. Affected hardware can eventually become unreachable, stop functioning, or fail to boot after a restart or power cycle.
SSD firmware and hardware problems can make storage unresponsive or force the filesystem into a read-only state. Affected Nexus and UCS systems may experience I/O failures, operational disruption, or require a power cycle or drive replacement.
Memory modules can develop excessive correctable or uncorrectable ECC errors because of wear, manufacturing deviations, or component degradation. Severe DIMM errors can reduce available memory, unexpectedly reset a server, or prevent it from completing POST.
Some Cisco hardware can operate normally until it is power-cycled, after which degraded memory, clock, storage, or other components prevent a successful boot. The device may become permanently unavailable and require hardware replacement.
HDDs and other storage devices used in Cisco server platforms can suffer premature failure, crashes, or data-access problems. Cisco has documented failures associated with drive contamination, component defects, power-loss behavior, and accumulated operating time.
High temperatures caused by cooling problems, restricted airflow, environmental conditions, or component faults can push hardware outside its operating range. This can cause alarms, shutdowns, reduced reliability, and premature component degradation.
Some Cisco server platforms can become unresponsive when hardware memory errors occur and cannot be handled successfully. Depending on the platform and failure severity, the result can include a host lockup, unexpected reset, failed POST, or an inoperable DIMM.
