Chyron Corporation is a U.S. broadcast-technology OEM specializing in real-time graphics, data visualization, and live-production systems for television, sports, news, and other professional video environments. The company pioneered broadcast character generators, and the term “chyron” became widely associated with on-screen titles and lower-third graphics. Its products include broadcast graphics hardware and software, character-generation and graphics systems, virtual and augmented graphics, telestration, channel branding, newsroom graphics workflows, data-driven graphics, and live-production/control platforms such as PRIME. Chyron historically performed final assembly, system integration, and testing of its hardware systems in Melville, New York, while sourcing many components and subassemblies from third-party suppliers. Today its technology can be deployed as on-premises hardware, cloud software, or hybrid broadcast infrastructure.
Hard drives and SSDs can become unavailable, run critically low on free space, or provide insufficient throughput for real-time media playback. Symptoms can include failed media playback, poor performance, missing projects, and system instability.
Video input/output hardware can become inoperable or fail to produce or capture the expected SDI signal. Incorrect or interrupted firmware updates can also render Chyron video I/O cards unusable and require factory repair.
GPU faults, inadequate GPU resources, driver problems, or incompatible graphics hardware can cause poor graphics performance, dropped output, or failure to render graphics correctly. Chyron systems such as PRIME depend heavily on supported NVIDIA graphics hardware.
A failed or unstable power supply can prevent a Chyron system from starting or cause unexpected shutdowns. Systems equipped with redundant supplies can also lose redundancy when one supply or its AC source fails.
Restricted airflow, dust accumulation, fan problems, or excessive ambient temperature can cause components to overheat. Thermal problems can lead to instability, degraded graphics performance, shutdowns, and shortened component life.
Missing, unstable, or incorrectly configured reference signals can prevent video hardware from locking correctly to house synchronization. The resulting output can exhibit dropped frames, timing errors, or unreliable video output.
Ethernet interface, cabling, switch, configuration, or network-path problems can make Chyron hardware and dependent services unreachable. Network storage problems can additionally reduce the real-time performance of PRIME and related systems.
Faulty or insufficient RAM and exhausted CPU or memory resources can produce freezes, application instability, slow operation, or dropped video frames. Chyron specifically warns that excessive system load and unnecessary background applications can interfere with playout.
Keyboards, USB devices, serial interfaces, and other operator-control peripherals can stop responding or conflict with the host system. These faults can leave the graphics engine operational while preventing normal operator input or external-device control.
