Chrosziel Gmbh repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Chrosziel GmbH is a German precision film-technology manufacturer founded in 1973, specializing in professional mechanical, optical, and electronic equipment for cinema, broadcast, video production, and lens servicing. The company is particularly known for its matte boxes, follow-focus systems, lens-control systems, fluid zoom drives, camera support equipment, lens adapters, collimators, projectors, and professional lens-testing instruments. Chrosziel has historically been especially prominent in professional matte boxes and precision optical testing equipment, with its collimators and projectors used by rental houses and lens-service operations associated with manufacturers such as Zeiss, Canon, and Fujinon. Its products emphasize low-volume, high-precision German/Bavarian manufacturing rather than mass-market production, and Chrosziel equipment is distributed internationally across more than 50 countries.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Wireless Hand Unit / Receiver Communication Failure

MagNum and Aladin systems may lose or fail to establish the RF link between the hand unit and receiver, resulting in an RF-error indication and loss of lens control. Common causes include damaged antennas, channel mismatches, RF interference, or faults in the transmitter/receiver electronics.

Lens Motor Calibration Failure

Focus, iris, or zoom motors may fail automatic calibration, stop prematurely, or report a motor-stop condition before completing the lens range. Problems can originate from incorrect stored limits, motor/encoder faults, obstructed lens gearing, poor gear engagement, or calibration being interrupted at an end stop.

Lens Motor Does Not Respond or Moves Erratically

Chrosziel CDM motors and MagNum/Aladin-controlled motors can become unresponsive, move in the wrong direction, jump, or respond incorrectly to hand-wheel commands. Chrosziel troubleshooting documentation identifies defective motors, damaged motor cables, calibration errors, and control-system configuration as common causes.

Motor Fails to Reach Lens End Stops

The motor may operate normally through part of its travel but fail to reach the mechanical minimum or infinity end stop of the lens. Incorrect automatic adjustment, unstable motor-to-lens gear engagement, hand-unit expansion settings, or improperly stored calibration values are typical causes.

Receiver / Motor Control Unit Startup Failure

MagNum and Aladin receiver or motor-control units may power up abnormally, remain in an error state, or fail to complete initialization. Documented recovery procedures include power cycling and factory reset, while persistent cases can indicate internal electronics, firmware, or power-supply faults.

Intermittent or High-Latency Lens Control

Wireless focus commands may exhibit delayed response, intermittent operation, or noticeable control latency. RF congestion and older firmware have been associated with this behavior, with Chrosziel acknowledging that early MagNum latency issues were addressed through firmware updates.

Motor / Power Cable Failure

Repeated handling of production equipment can lead to intermittent or open connections in the motor and power cabling, causing motors to stop responding or the controller to behave unpredictably. Chrosziel specifically directs users to substitute the motor and motor cable when diagnosing incorrect motor response.

Low-Voltage / Power Input Fault

MagNum receivers and related control hardware may malfunction when supply voltage is insufficient or drops under motor load. The system provides low-voltage and voltage-drop indications, and inadequate power can manifest as weak motor performance, resets, or loss of operation.

Lens Data / Digital Interface Communication Failure

Chrosziel digital lens-control products can lose communication with the lens or its electronic data interface, preventing normal lens-data or servo operation. Current Chrosziel hardware explicitly reports internal faults or loss of communication with the lens i-data interface through its status indicator.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
