Canary Audio repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Canary Audio is an American high-end audio electronics manufacturer specializing particularly in vacuum-tube amplification. The company designs and builds audiophile power amplifiers, monoblock amplifiers, integrated amplifiers, preamplifiers and phono preamplifiers, along with digital products such as DACs, CD players/transports and audio cables. It is particularly associated with 300B vacuum-tube amplifiers and Class-A/triode designs; an industry review notes that the company has focused on designing and building 300B-based amplifiers since its early years and has also undertaken OEM projects for other high-end audio brands. Canary emphasizes hand assembly, point-to-point wiring, carefully selected tubes, custom-wound transformers, heavy metal chassis and premium passive components. Its amplifiers and preamplifiers are marketed as handcrafted in California rather than outsourced finished products.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Power Tube Failure

Output tubes such as 300B, EL34/6CA7, and other vacuum tubes can weaken, become noisy, or fail, causing reduced output, distortion, intermittent sound, or a dead channel. Tubes are consumable components and Canary’s standard warranty gives them substantially shorter coverage than the hardware itself.

Incorrect Power-Tube Bias

Bias can drift away from the correct operating point on manually biased Canary amplifiers. Incorrect bias can shorten tube life, degrade performance, and, in severe cases, damage the tube or amplifier.

Blown Line Fuse

A failed line fuse can leave the amplifier completely unable to power on. Canary hardware uses replaceable line fuses, with some models providing a spare fuse in the fuseholder.

Tube Socket / Contact Failure

Poor contact between a vacuum tube and its socket can produce intermittent operation, noise, channel dropouts, or failure to operate. Canary amplifiers use numerous removable tubes, making tube/socket connections recurring service points.

Hum or Excessive Noise

Aging or defective tubes and components can produce audible hum, hiss, or other unwanted noise. This becomes a fault when noise rises materially above the model's specified noise performance.

Channel Output Loss

A tube, connection, fuse, or internal component failure can cause one channel or monoblock to stop producing audio while the rest of the system remains operational. Canary's dual-mono and monoblock designs can make such failures appear isolated to a single channel.

Distortion / Premature Clipping

Weak tubes, incorrect bias, or deteriorating circuit components can cause audible distortion or clipping before the amplifier reaches its expected output. This may appear as harshness, compression, or breakup as volume increases.

Power-Supply Failure

Failures involving rectifier tubes, filtering components, transformers, or associated high-voltage circuitry can cause loss of power, excessive noise, unstable operation, or blown fuses. Canary tube amplifiers rely on substantial high-voltage power-supply sections, often including rectification and choke filtering.

Control / Connection Intermittency

Wear, contamination, or connection problems involving input selectors, stepped attenuators, RCA connectors, or speaker binding posts can cause intermittent audio, crackling, or signal loss. These mechanical signal-path components are repeatedly operated or connected during normal use.

1 Acme Revival offers repair, service, and part rebuild opportunities for most Canary Audio devices.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
