Burson repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Burson Audio is an Australian designer and manufacturer of premium audiophile electronics founded in Melbourne in 2001. The company specializes in headphone amplifiers, DACs, preamplifiers, power amplifiers, integrated DAC/amplifier systems, power-supply products, and discrete operational amplifiers (op-amps). Burson is particularly known for avoiding conventional integrated-circuit approaches in critical analog signal paths in favor of proprietary discrete circuitry, including its well-known replaceable discrete op-amps, and for its Max Current Power Supply (MCPS) technology. Its products primarily target audiophiles, headphone enthusiasts, studios, and high-end home-audio systems. Engineering and product development are centered in Australia; manufacturing is mixed, with documented Australian-made equipment alongside products manufactured in China under Burson's specifications and QC.

2 Most Seen Failures:

Power Supply / No-Power Failure

Burson Playmate, Conductor, Soloist, and related models can develop intermittent startup, power cycling, clicking, or complete no-power conditions. Common suspects include the external power adapter, internal power regulation circuitry, electrolytic capacitors, and associated power-board components.

Channel Dropout / Distorted Channel

One audio channel may become weak, distorted, crackly, fuzzy, intermittent, or completely silent. Reported causes include failing op-amps, capacitors, output-stage components, connectors, or other components in the analog signal path.

Loud Popping / Crackling Output

Conductor and other DAC/amp models have reports of sudden pops, crackling, or transient noise through headphones, preamp outputs, or powered speakers. Faults can originate in the analog output stage, op-amps, power circuitry, DAC/interface electronics, or switching behavior.

Volume Encoder / Control Knob Failure

Digital volume controls can become erratic, unresponsive, skip steps, or register movement in the wrong or inconsistent direction. Wear or malfunction of the rotary encoder/control circuitry is a recurring usability and repair issue on Conductor, Playmate, and related models.

USB / Digital Input Failure

Burson DAC-equipped products can lose USB detection, intermittently disconnect from a computer, fail to initialize the digital interface, or produce no audio from a digital input. The USB interface board, connector, firmware/interface circuitry, or its local power supply are typical diagnostic targets.

Display / Front-Panel Failure

The front display may remain blank, freeze, flicker, or fail to initialize even when other portions of the unit receive power. Front-panel circuitry, display modules, ribbon/interconnect connections, power rails, and control electronics should be checked.

Hum / Ground Noise

Burson amplifiers and DAC/preamps can develop audible hum, buzz, or ground-related noise at headphone or preamp outputs. Repair shops specifically identify hum as a fault encountered in Burson equipment, with grounding, power-supply filtering, connectors, and analog-stage components among the likely causes.

Overheating / Thermal Component Failure

Burson's high-current and Class-A-oriented designs naturally operate warm, but abnormal heat can accelerate failures in capacitors, regulators, op-amps, and surrounding components. Burson discrete op-amps have also generated reports involving excessive temperature or unequal operating temperatures between channels.

Power Amplifier Output-Stage Failure

Timekeeper, Funk, and other Burson products containing speaker-power amplification can suffer failed output stages resulting in no output, distorted output, protection behavior, or a dead channel. Output transistors, driver circuitry, bias components, power rails, and heat-stressed components are primary areas for bench diagnosis.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
