Broan-NuTone LLC is a major North American manufacturer of residential ventilation and indoor-air-quality equipment, with roots dating to Broan's founding in 1932 and NuTone's early development of electric door chimes. The company is particularly known for bathroom exhaust fans and kitchen range hoods, while its broader portfolio includes fresh-air/HRV/ERV systems, attic and whole-house ventilators, air purifiers, heater/fan/light units, indoor-air-quality monitoring and controls, and other residential air-management products. Its brands have also historically covered products such as doorbells and central-vacuum systems. Broan-NuTone maintains a significant manufacturing operation in Hartford, Wisconsin, along with manufacturing elsewhere in North America and internationally; the company reports more than 2,500 employees across its manufacturing facilities.
Broan and NuTone bathroom exhaust fans commonly develop worn motor bearings or aging motors, producing grinding, squealing, rattling, humming, or lawnmower-like noise. Severe wear can eventually cause slow operation or complete failure to start.
Bath fans and range hoods can develop loose, damaged, unbalanced, or improperly seated blower wheels and fan blades. Typical symptoms include excessive vibration, rattling, reduced airflow, scraping noises, and abnormal motor noise.
Range hoods and bathroom fans frequently exhibit weak extraction caused by restricted, undersized, excessively long, or poorly routed ductwork, along with dirty blower assemblies or airflow obstructions. Users typically report poor smoke, odor, steam, or humidity removal despite the blower running.
Broan range-hood blower motors can become noisy, intermittent, slow, or completely inoperative as the motor and associated rotating components wear. A failing blower commonly presents as humming, abnormal mechanical noise, reduced extraction, or a fan that will not run.
Range hoods and combination fan-light units commonly experience loss of illumination from failed bulbs, sockets, LED modules, wiring connections, or associated controls. Broan-NuTone specifically lists non-working lighting as a recurring range-hood troubleshooting condition.
Broan and NuTone wall heaters and fan-heater combinations can repeatedly shut down when restricted airflow or accumulated debris causes overheating and activates the thermal protector. Heating-element, motor, thermostat, or installation-related airflow problems can produce similar symptoms.
NuTone wired and electronic doorbells commonly fail to ring, power-cycle, or fail to start because of transformer voltage, wiring, connection, diode, pushbutton, or chime-mechanism faults. Older or undersized transformers are particularly associated with insufficient operating voltage.
NuTone central vacuum systems commonly develop weak suction from clogged filters, full bags or debris pails, blocked hoses or tubing, leaking wall inlets, damaged seals, or restricted exhaust paths. Continued operation with severe filtration or airflow problems can also place additional load on the vacuum motor.
Humidity-sensing Broan-NuTone bath fans can become unreliable when the humidity sensor becomes contaminated or its control circuitry or wiring develops a fault. Symptoms include the fan failing to start when humidity rises, running unexpectedly, or failing to shut down normally.
