Bome Software is a German developer of specialized MIDI software and hardware for musicians, live-production professionals, studios, DJs, lighting engineers, and system integrators. Its best-known products include Bome MIDI Translator Pro, used for advanced MIDI mapping and processing; Bome Network, for MIDI-over-Ethernet/Wi-Fi networking; and the BomeBox, a standalone hardware MIDI router and processing hub supporting DIN MIDI, USB, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi. Bome describes its core focus as MIDI control, networking, routing, and real-time processing for stage and studio applications. The company is also preparing the BomeBox 2, with expanded MIDI and USB connectivity and increased processing capacity
BomeBox units may continuously reboot, blink the power LED, fail to finish startup, or behave erratically when the 5V supply or USB power source is marginal. Fast-charging USB ports, poor cables, and inadequate power adapters are repeatedly associated with this behavior.
The PoE-In Ethernet port may continue supplying power while Ethernet data communication stops working. Reported cases show the alternate Ethernet port remaining functional, indicating failure or malfunction localized to the PoE-In data path.
The BomeBox can intermittently disappear from Wi-Fi, remain stuck in a pending state, or require restarting before network communication resumes. Incorrect network configuration can cause similar symptoms, but recurring connection-loss cases have also been addressed through firmware updates.
USB MIDI controllers, interfaces, or entire USB hubs may stop appearing in the BomeBox MIDI-port list even though the peripherals work normally on a computer. Causes reported include USB power problems, hub incompatibility, cabling faults, and possible failure of the BomeBox USB host circuit.
Devices connected to the USB host port may disconnect, fail to initialize, or contribute to BomeBox shutdowns when the attached equipment exceeds the available USB power budget. Bome specifies a maximum of approximately 1A at 5V from the USB-A host connection.
Network MIDI sessions can unexpectedly stall or disconnect even while the BomeBox itself remains reachable. Firmware 1.6.0 contained a documented condition that could cause network MIDI connection loss, with fixes incorporated into firmware 1.6.1.
Connected USB MIDI ports can disappear from the MIDI Ports or MIDI Routes interface, preventing normal routing configuration. Some cases originate from device enumeration or USB issues, while others have been traced to firmware or web-interface problems rather than a physically failed MIDI circuit.
A previously working BomeBox may boot but fail to automatically restore its network or MIDI connection after being powered off and back on. Pairing persistence, network configuration, firmware defects, and power stability have all been associated with this symptom.
Power through the micro-USB input can become intermittent or unreliable because of marginal cables, connectors, or 5V supplies, producing startup failures and random resets. Bome support frequently recommends testing a known-good regulated USB supply or PoE to isolate this failure mode.
