Bluefish444 repair, service, and parts

Acme Revival is an independent repair network that operates separately from the manufacturers whose devices we service. Our independence enables a repair model that exists beyond manufacturer-controlled strategies, while preserving the ability to work with manufacturers where appropriate.

Bluefish444 is an Australian professional-video hardware manufacturer founded in 1998 and operated as a division/brand of Bluefish Technologies Pty Ltd. It specializes in high-performance video I/O hardware, particularly its KRONOS and Epoch PCIe cards for SDI, HDMI and SMPTE/Video-over-IP workflows, along with centralized ingest appliances, signal converters and capture/streaming software such as IngeSTore. Its products are primarily used in broadcast television, post-production, live production, virtual production, graphics, archival and professional AV systems, and are also integrated into medical, defence, corporate and industrial video applications. Bluefish444 is especially known for uncompressed high-resolution video capture/playout hardware and for integrating its cards with platforms such as Adobe, Avid, Unreal Engine, Unity and Vizrt.

2 Most Seen Failures:

SDI Input/Output Signal Failure

One or more SDI ports stop detecting an incoming signal or fail to produce usable video output. Common hardware-level causes include damaged BNC connectors, failed SDI transceiver circuitry, or degradation in the signal-path components.

PCIe Card Not Detected

The Bluefish444 card is missing from the operating system, BlueToolBox, or the host application despite being installed. Typical causes include PCIe interface faults, poor slot contact, board power problems, or failure of the card's PCIe/FPGA circuitry.

Intermittent or Dropped Video Frames

Capture or playback develops dropped, repeated, or corrupted frames, particularly during high-bandwidth HD, 3G, or 4K operation. Hardware faults in onboard memory, DMA/PCIe circuitry, or signal-processing logic can produce persistent frame-transfer instability.

Genlock / Reference Lock Failure

The card fails to lock reliably to an external bi-level or tri-level reference, causing unstable timing, frame slips, or unsynchronized outputs. Faults commonly center on the reference BNC, input conditioning circuitry, clock generator, or synchronization circuitry.

Embedded Audio Loss or Noise

SDI video remains present but embedded audio is missing, distorted, noisy, or intermittently drops channels. Bluefish444 has documented embedded-audio noise and mapping problems, while persistent hardware cases can involve audio clocking, sample-rate conversion, or SDI embedding circuitry.

HDMI Monitor Output Failure

The card continues to operate through SDI while its HDMI monitoring output becomes blank, intermittent, or fails to negotiate correctly with displays. Likely hardware faults include the HDMI transmitter, connector damage, ESD protection components, or supporting power rails.

Firmware / FPGA Initialization Failure

The card powers up but loads incorrectly, reports an unexpected configuration, loses I/O functions, or requires firmware recovery. Failures can result from corrupted firmware storage, interrupted programming, or faults affecting the FPGA configuration circuitry.

BNC Connector / Individual Port Failure

A specific SDI or reference connector becomes intermittent while the remaining ports continue to work normally. Repeated cable changes and mechanical stress can damage the BNC socket, solder joints, termination network, or associated input/output driver circuitry.

Power or Thermal Instability

The card operates initially but develops video corruption, intermittent disconnects, resets, or complete loss of operation as temperature or workload increases. Aging regulators, power-conversion components, insufficient cooling, or heat-related FPGA and memory instability are common board-level suspects.

Connect with a technician.

  1. 1 Repairs are performed on a best-effort basis. Acme Revival utilizes a network of sophisticated technicians and engineers with diverse service offerings; despite this, factors that influence the repair outcome may ultimately prove unsuccessful. Acme Revival makes no claim that it can, guarantee a repair before your device is sent in for diagnostic evaluation; even then, repair and diagnostic work are not mutually exclusive. Despite well-intentioned quoting, repairs may still prove unsuccessful.
